Scott - Birmingham tutor
Information About Scott:
Personal Description:
I am an extremely approachable and down-to-earth person and pride myself on my ability to get on with any individual; in fact I really enjoy working with people from all walks of life! I think that having an affable temperament and approach to tutoring is the most effective way of getting the best results because, as studies confirm, students learn better when they are happy and are enjoying their learning experience. I therefore find it best for students to learn in their home environment where they are most comfortable and I am then able to provide the most effective and enjoyable tutoring experience.
Teaching Experience:
From a very young age I found that I was always good at explaining things to people, and therefore my tutoring started with simply teaching friends at school who were struggling with various subjects, and it has continued from there. In fact I was even heralded a better teacher than my secondary school Maths teacher by several classmates, who apparently preferred my approach to teaching! I went on to tutor a friend to achieve his Business Studies AVCE, then tutored several children of family friends on various subjects at GCSE and key stage 3 levels (years 7-9) during my gap year before university.
Having taken a break to study for my degree I then returned to the profession in 2009. Since then I have achieved excellent results, including an A-Level Business Studies student who went from an E to an A grade, several A*s in GCSE Maths, as well as boosting the confidence and results in young students aged 8-14 who have been struggling with their maths.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that it is vital to be a good listener as a tutor and to adapt your tutoring style and approach to the student. If a more visual approach to learning produces better results for a student than it is important to apply such an approach, and equally, for example, I adopt a more conversational style of tutoring for students that prefer more verbal learning techniques. Ultimately, I am a well-rounded tutor who has worked successfully with individuals from various backgrounds and of varying abilities so whatever you are aiming to achieve I will endeavour to help you achieve it!
I have vast experience working with children with dyslexia, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder and do not see these as barriers to achieving positive results. I believe every child is different and therefore tailor my approach to the individual in order to achieve the best possible results.
