Michael - Brighton tutor

Information About Michael:

Personal Description:

I regard myself to be a self-made, self-styled individual who recognises the importance of learning and developing skills to advance yourself. That is how I did it! From growing up and attending school in rural Yorkshire, to moving south and attending University in Brighton, I've been fortunate to work with individuals from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds. I've also had my fair share of life experiences and feel these can compliment my teaching.

Teaching Experience:

Have been teaching Drama (practical and theory) in my own time for five years working with mainly 17-24 year olds. However I have also spent time working on projects with students at GCSE and A level. The teaching of English Literature goes very much hand-in-hand with drama.

Tutoring Approach:

For theatre, my approach is very much a combination of practical and theory. It is essential to compliment each area with the other, thus providing a balanced insight into the subject. I use a variety of resource books and texts, and use a diverse range of games and exercises to build confidence and stretch the mind.

The teaching of English Literature requires an understanding of contexts; providing backgrounds for the author, the style, the sociological and cultural implications of the text(s) and knowledge of other related literary areas. A strong knowledge of literary devices and grammar is essential for extracting and analysing information from the texts; therefore this also forms an important part of the teaching.
