Personal Description:

Apart from being an active teacher, I've also had jobs and interests in many other aspects of life, giving me a wide variety of experiences which I find helpful when teaching young people. I've also helped bring up two children of my own and have two lovely granddaughters, which help to give me another perspective of the learning experience and the attitudes of young people today.



Teaching Experience:

I have a B.A. [Hons] in Primary Education and have taught both full time in schools and for the past seven years I've been supply teaching. During this time I have taught in over 100 different schools over quite a wide area and encountered children of all abilities, attitudes and ethnic backgrounds. I have taught all age ranges from Nursery to 11+ and older children in a Special School, although the majority of my teaching has been in Key Stage 2.



Tutoring Approach:

I feel that tutoring, especially one-to-one, should be tailored to gently push children further than they would be able to get in the normal classroom situation, especially by matching the teaching and learning style to the individual child. By starting gradually and steadily progressing children often out-perform anything they thought possible. I find that children learn best in a quiet, settled environment, which is why I offer the facility at my house, or try to achieve in the child's own home.
