Tutoring Approach:
The lessons are tailored to meet the students' needs. I usually apply the Communicative approach in my lessons. But it won't suit some students. In this case, I will rethink the methodology. That's why prior to choosing any strategies, I will offer a free appointment to discuss students' aspirations and establish their Portuguese level. We then agree on a program of study which matches their goals, frequency of lessons, and their starting ability. The lesson plan will be updated every 3 to 6 months.

Tutoring Approach:
I make presentations for every single lesson. I make them as interactive as possible, as this is what allows for retention of information. Throughout the lesson I make sure that the tutee understands the content (e.g. asking the tutee to rephrase the content that is being learnt to make sure they fully grasp the topic.) I end lessons with recap questions, a quiz, or practice exam questions.
After the end of the lesson, I send the presentation through email so you can revisit it at any time.

I am a qualified teacher (Master's Degree in Education from the University of Coimbra, Portugal. When I started teaching Portuguese to new students (adults and children), I told them to use all the words in Portuguese they already knew. From the first minute, we will talk, listen and think in Portuguese. With me, you will learn to speak Portuguese like a real native, including all the expressions that you cannot find in the textbook. Iain was born in 1986 in Dundee, Scotland into a large musical family, so unsurprisingly making music was all that he wanted to do from an early age. He first began to learn the trumpet in school aged seven, before joining his local brass band Dundee Instrumental on cornet at the age of ten. By the age of twelve, Iain had been promoted to principal cornet, a position he later went on to hold with several of Scotland's top bands, also including the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. Many solo competitions were won along the way - including the junior section at the British Open Solo Championships at age eleven. Having gained two Trinity College diplomas before the age of eighteen, Iain took the advice of teacher David James and moved south to study music at the University of Salford, where his playing really began to blossom. Since then Iain has held positions as principal cornet with many of the UK's leading brass bands including his current seat with the world renowned Leyland Band. He has enjoyed many successful contest and concert performances, and is fast establishing a reputation as one of the finest cornet soloists of his generation, performing, adjudicating and giving master-classes as far afield as the USA, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Japan. In 2009 Iain was the recipient of a prestigious Dewar Arts award, awarded for performance in trumpet. This award allowed him to complete his postgraduate studies at Salford, graduating with an MA in Music (performance) in 2010. Iain is now a cornet tutor at the University of Salford where he is also undertaking researchinto focal dystonia in musicians, working towards a PhD. Iain recorded and released his first solo CD entitled "Vanguard" in August 2012, a release which has been met with great critical acclaim and has fast proven popular.

Iain is also an experienced guitarist and teacher of electric and acoustic guitar as well as the bass guitar.

PSYCHOLOGY
I have a BSc (First Class Honours) in Psychology from Brunel University (2007), and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge (2011). I have worked as a research fellow and subsequently as a psychology lecturer at various universities in the U.K. My research is mainly in social, health and cognitive psychology, but I also teach research methods (both quantitative and qualitative methodologies), statistics and SPSS, as well as effective academic writing, including dissertations and research projects. In addition, I have sufficient competence in personality (i.e., individual differences) and clinical psychology to be able to teach these at undergraduate level. I have published over a dozen peer-reviewed articles, including some in world-leading journals, and have over 1300 academic citations of my research. Some of my research interests are: The attitude-behaviour relationship, behavioural interventions, motivation, cognition, and emotion, dual-process models of cognition, cognitive dissonance, self-affirmation, and information processing, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, health psychology, meta-cognition and self-knowledge, persuasion and social influence, intelligence and problem-solving, psychology of music, and psychology of religion.

PHILOSOPHY/CRITICAL THINKING/RELIGIOUS STUDIES
In my own research in psychology, I have drawn on several philosophical ideas, and have integrated different philosophical perspectives into my work. In addition to critical thinking, I am able to teach humanistic philosophy, social cognition, epistemology, existentialism, and related areas. I also teach how to build philosophical arguments for academic and commercial purposes. In terms of religious studies, I have a particular interest in the Abrahamic faiths, as well as Hinduism, Buddhism, and related philosophies.

MUSIC
I am a performer and teacher of Indian classical music (Northern style), and teach the instruments of dilruba, esraj, taus, taar shehnai and a bit of sarangi. I have been learning for 18 years, and been performing for the last 10 years. I teach beginners and intermediate students in basic and advanced raagas (from Yaman to Darbari) and taalas. I also teach vocal and harmonium.

ENGLISH LITERATURE
I specialise in creative writing, particularly short stories, and can teach students techniques in textual analysis and interpretation, especially using the hermeneutic method. I am also interested in how characters in stories (all genres) are given psychological depth, as well as how story structure and character development go hand-in-hand.

URDU
Urdu is my mother tongue, and is one of four languages that I speak fluently. I can teach beginners and intermediate students in grammar, reading and writing, as well as conversations. And I also teach advanced students in conversation. My particular interests in Urdu literature are 18th and 19th century poetry, especially ghazals.

DANISH
I am a native speaker of Danish, and spent the first 22 years of my life there. I can teach all levels of the language and its literature. Some of the key authors that I have an interest in are Søren Kierkegaard, Karen Blixen, H C Anderson, and we can also discuss Danish film, cinema, and culture. Danish is very similar to Swedish and Norwegian so by learning Danish you will be able to read those languages quite well, and you might be able to understand speech in those languages to some extend. There is also some overlap between Danish and German, though not as much.

Teaching Experience:
I taught psychology to undergraduates at the University of Cambridge from 2008-2011. I then taught at King's College London from 2011-2014, followed by the University of Bath from 2014-2017 and then Bath Spa University from 2017-2022. I also supervise BSc, MSc, and doctoral students. I'm currently lecturing at the University of Hertfordshire.

Tutoring Approach:
I aim to use an interactive approach that encourages active involvement of the tutee. My main goal during tuition sessions is to stimulate an interest in the subject and facilitate independent and critical thinking. I specialise slightly more in Spanish but teach both Spanish and French to GCSE, IGCSE, A-level and Pre-U and IB. I work as an examiner for IGCSE, Pre-U and the IB, and have a good deal of exerience in preparation for Oxbridge applications and Common Entrance exams. In 2004 I complete a degree in music where I was awarded a First Class an award for outstanding achievment in my final year, finishing top of my year group.
I currently write and perform with a garage-rock group as guitarist and lead vocalist while teaching guitar privately and in schools.

I am an experienced GCSE and A' level Biology Examiner and question setter and an ex-University lecturer in Pharmacy (University of Nottingham). I sat on the examination board for the award of the MPharm degree for nearly a decade and I have experience of teaching within secondary school.

I hold a PhD from Imperial College London. have a strong academic track record and have led cutting-edge research teams for Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Zeneca, Novartis and other major pharmaceutical and biotech companies. I am fascinated by science and maths and I believe my genuine enthusiasm for the fields, combined with my working knowledge, based on years as an active researcher, is evident in my teaching.

I enjoy working with students of varying ages and abilities and take pride in encouraging students to reach their full potential. I am patient and understanding in my approach, which I will adapt to meet the strengths and needs of individual learners. I have an up-to- date knowledge of the secondary science curriculum, enabling me to teach biology, chemistry, physics and maths at KS3 and GCSE. However, the majority of my students are studying chemistry and/or biology A'level. With my University teaching background I am perfectly placed to be able to support students to achieving the necessary A/A* grades for entry to medicine, vet medicine, dentistry etc.

I am familiar with all the major examination boards (AQA, OCR, EdExcel, IB, CIE), I have been a University lecturer in pharmacy for 8 years, I have recent school-based teaching experience at secondary level and I am a biology examiner. My tutoring approach focuses not just on telling students what to write, but helping to deepen their fundamental understanding so they understand why.

I am also the previous Vice-President of The Tutors Association, the professional body for the tuition industry. I was elected into this position by members of the tutoring profession and tutor as a full-time profession.

Tutoring Approach:
I offer tuition either online, or face to face from my home. For face to face tuition I have a dedicated space which is free from distractions and all my materials and resources are immediately available to make tuition as effective as possible.

Personal Description:
I am the mum of two children and step mum to three more. I home educated my two children from when they were 12, and helped them to get 16 IGCSEs and GCSEs between them. One has since gone on to university following A levels at sixth form college, and the other has graduated from an art and design diploma with D*D*D*, the highest grade possible.

I have a degree in geography and topographic science, and I am very flexible when it comes to helping students to understand what they are learning.

Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring since 2008, when my son left secondary school to begin home education. Since then I have taken him, my daughter and three of their friends through eleven different subjects at GCSE level. Most were the harder IGCSEs, while a few were GCSEs.

Once they had moved on to sixth form college I began tutoring other children, both home educated and in the schooling system. I have successfully worked with a wide range of ability levels, from students who came for tutoring because they were afraid that they were going to fail in every subject, to A* students. I have a comprehensive knowledge of the syllabi of most subjects, particularly those in which I offer my tutoring services, and can flexibly work with students at any stage of their education up to GCSE exams.

In the past few years I have been working with students who have dyscalculia (whether officially diagnosed or not), and have had considerable success in helping them to pass their maths GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach:
I help students to find the places where they are stuck or not understanding, and first work with those. It often happens in school that students miss a key explanation, whether through absence or simply through the teacher not ensuring that they have fully understood before they move on, and from then onwards the effects of this will multiply. If they can put good foundations in place then they find that they understand far more than they thought they could, and they can build on this more quickly and easily than they ever thought possible.

My philosophy is that if the student hasn't understood what they are being taught, then it is up to me to find more ways of explaining it until they do. I am happy to work with home educated and school students, for extended periods or for just a few sessions leading up to the exams.

I am approachable, reliable and trustworthy, and have worked with children and young people in education, child care and the charity sector.

I hold a 2:1 BA in Criminology (Youth Justice) and am looking forward to beginning Primary Teacher Training (PGCE) in September. I am a native English speaker and have an enhanced DBS check.

I am currently a teaching assistant in a primary school year 4 class. I provide Maths and English interventions to small groups of children, as well as one to one support.

My experience as a child-minder to children aged four to six shaped my decision to pursue primary teaching as a career.

I have also volunteered as an Independent Visitor providing friendship and support figure to a young person with aspergers syndrome, in care of the local authority, a role I found extremely rewarding.

Teaching Experience:
Whilst at university I elected to complete a placement year volunteering as a Supported Housing Assistant at Centrepoint. My primary role was to manage, develop and deliver the AQA accredited 'Lifewise' workshops for the 44-bed service. I was delighted to win the award for being innovative, empowering, inspiring and professional during my time at Centrepoint.

A grasp of maths is essential to everyday life and therefore a high quality mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world.
