Personal Description:
I am 43 years old and hold a Masters degree from Oxford University. I work full time as a tutor, now offering lessons online and face-to-face.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring on a one-to-one basis for over 20 years. I also sometimes teach small classes. I am happy teaching children, teenagers, university students and adult learners.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching uses traditional methods and lively interaction. I expect the student to complete tasks between lessons. Without repetition and revision no-one can be expected to remember. Therefore, I am not afraid to go over the most basic elements until they are well known. Solid foundations are the basis for confidence.

Personal Description:
I am a native Chinese and I come from northeast of China - Chang Chun, where the first movie and car were made in China, and it also has the most numbers of the universities in China.

I came to the UK in 2007, and I feel grateful and joyful to experience this dynamic culture and to meet many interesting and decent people.

I love food, music, movies, and spending time in nature. I am interested in healthy living and different cultures, I like to visit and explore new places, meet people, and most importantly, to serve others with the skills and talents I have.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Mandarin in 2002 where I volunteered to teach 7 western teachers at Jilin University, where I studied in China, and I gained my first teaching experience.

A year later after my graduation I went on working for Dao Hang Language Institution in China as an English teacher. I taught both children and adults, and from then I realised that each student had their own unique way of learning, and teaching should be tailored according to each individual's need.

I also provided Mandarin lessons to corporate staff whist working as a PA in GE and Philips in China.

After settling in the UK, I started providing private lessons from October 2009 and I taught in schools, companies, and individuals in London and Cambridge. I helped students achieved their GCSE/AS/A2 levels, and currently I am preparing a student for his HSK exam, and another student for his GCSE exam in 2022.

I have been receiving positive feedback from my students, and as a result, some of them increased their weekly lessons with me.

In 2021 I was recruited by Cambridge Assessment as an examiner for the Mandarin subject.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to learning a language, if we watch the way how a young child is learning, he/she spends most of the time listening first and then imitating, and with the language environment, he/she flourishes. This is the most natural approach.

When it comes to learning a new language as an adult, I know (because I have done it and I have seen others done it too) that within each one of us we still have the potential to activate that part of the brain which allows us to acquire and absorb the new language subconsciously, or simply put, to have a feel for it!

In my lessons I usually combine listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities. My students submerge in a lot of listening and speaking at the early stage of the lessons, and then we move onto reading and sometimes storytelling, depending on the age group. I do my best to understand each of my students' learning needs, goals and interest and tailor the lessons by increasing certain activities, along with Chinese culture and customs explained.

We do have a touch on grammar too, but not in a sense trying to memorise them, it is rather as a guidance.

I believe Mandarin or any language can be easily acquired through this natural approach with time and effort, and I will be here with you taking every step on this amazing journey!

Personal Description:
Hello! I'm Kiren, a passionate and dedicated math tutor with a deep love for numbers and a strong commitment to helping students succeed. With a background in mathematics, gained through my Bachelors in engineering, I bring both expertise and enthusiasm to every tutoring session.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages and skill levels, from primary school through to college. My approach to teaching maths is centered on making the subject accessible and enjoyable. I believe that everyone has the potential to excel in math with the right guidance and support.

Teaching Experience:

I have had the pleasure of tutoring students across a wide range of educational levels, from primary school through to A-level. My journey as a maths tutor began with helping primary school students build a strong foundation in basic arithmetic and problem-solving skills. I quickly discovered a passion for teaching and a knack for explaining complex concepts in a way that young learners could easily grasp. Seeing my students' confidence grow as they mastered new skills was incredibly rewarding and fueled my desire to reach even more students.

In addition to working with younger students, I have also tutored A level school students, guiding them through the intricacies of Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. My approach is always tailored to the individual needs of each student, whether they are preparing for critical exams or simply looking to improve their understanding of the material. My experience with A-level students has been particularly enriching, as I have been able to help them tackle advanced topics and prepare for university-level coursework.

Beyond traditional tutoring, I spent a year teaching apprentices, which was a unique and fulfilling experience. Working with apprentices allowed me to connect mathematical theory with practical, real-world applications, demonstrating how essential maths skills are in various trades and professions. This experience honed my ability to make math relevant and engaging, showing students the value of what they are learning beyond the classroom.

During my time at university, I also provided peer support to fellow students. This involved helping my classmates with challenging coursework, facilitating study groups, and offering one-on-one assistance. These informal teaching opportunities helped me develop a deeper understanding of the material and refined my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively. It was during this period that I realised how much I enjoyed teaching and mentoring others, solidifying my commitment to becoming a dedicated math tutor.

Throughout my diverse teaching experiences, I have cultivated a versatile teaching style that adapts to the needs of each student. Whether working with young children, high school students, apprentices, or university peers, my goal remains the same: to inspire a love for maths and to empower my students to achieve their full potential

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is centered around the belief that every student has the potential to excel in maths when given the right tools and support. I strive to create a learning environment that is both encouraging and engaging, where students feel comfortable exploring new concepts and expressing their difficulties. Patience and understanding are at the core of my teaching philosophy, as I recognise that each student learns at their own pace and in their own unique way.

One of the key elements of my approach is personalisation. I tailor my lessons to meet the specific needs and goals of each student, taking into account their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. By customising my teaching methods, I can provide targeted support that helps students overcome their challenges and build confidence in their abilities. Whether a student needs help with basic arithmetic, advanced algebra, or anything in between, I am committed to providing the guidance and resources they need to succeed.

Interactive and practical learning is another cornerstone of my teaching style. I incorporate a variety of teaching aids and techniques to make math more relatable and interesting. This includes using real-world examples, visual aids, and hands-on activities to demonstrate how mathematical concepts apply to everyday life and various professions. By making math relevant and tangible, I aim to spark curiosity and enthusiasm in my students, helping them see the value and importance of what they are learning.

I also believe in the power of positive reinforcement and encouragement. Building a student's confidence is crucial to their success, and I make it a point to celebrate their progress, no matter how small. By fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere, I help students develop a growth mindset, where they view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. This mindset not only improves their performance in math but also equips them with the resilience and problem-solving skills that will benefit them in all areas of life.

Ultimately, my goal as a math tutor is not only to improve my students' grades but also to instill a lasting appreciation for the subject. I want my students to leave our sessions with a deeper understanding of maths and a newfound confidence in their abilities. Through a combination of personalised instruction, interactive learning, and positive reinforcement, I am dedicated to helping each student achieve their full potential and develop a lifelong love for learning.

Testimonials

I am currently studying A level French and I am very pleased to be able to say that my French has improved more than I ever thought it would since starting tuition with Michel. In just over one month, I have improved by two whole grades, which has been evident from mock exam results in class at school. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons with Michel because I do not feel embarrassed to ask seemingly simple questions, which I feel I cannot ask in my class at school.
E. H. - Bromley

My daughter who is doing A level French was really struggling before we found Michel. He has really motivated her and has made lessons more interesting . She has 2 hour lessons but she is surprised how quick the time goes. I would highly recommend Michel. I can see he gets pleasure helping his pupils make progress. My daughter`s accent has also greatly improved with Michel`s help.
Mrs G - Croydon

I`ve just received my results and I`m very happy to tell you that I got an A for my French I-GCSE. Thank you for all your help because it really made a difference! - G - Bromley

Hi Michel,
Thank you for your help. I got A* in my French oral! - C. Sevenoaks School

I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the sessions, they really helped me get a high grade for speaking and an overall A. Thank you so much - S - Orpington

I have enjoyed Michel`s teaching immensely. I would very much recommend Michel to other students- he`s really quite adaptable and has used some creative approaches to teaching which was really helpful for me.
Karen C. - London

Personal Description:
I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Tutoring Approach:

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. Allied to developing the imaginative and creative abilities is the need to create opportunities to build on existing technical skills and introduce new ones. The combination should be fun.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching for 12 years in a range of schools across Teesside. I will support children to achieve their best no matter what ability they are. I will work alongside and their current school to support what they find difficult. I use a range of strategies and resources to engage and enthuse my students so that they can achieve their potential. I provide a fun and friendly atmosphere in order for my students to achieve. Being a Primary Teacher I have taught all Primary subjects but my strengths are in Maths, English, ICT, Science and Music. Some of my parents said about me: "You have been such a positive influence on our daughter and she has loved having you as her teacher". "You are an exceptional tutor and I feel that the loss of your ability and personality will significantly reduce the fabric of the school". "Thank you for all that you have done for our son during Year 3. He has enjoyed everyday of school and I believe that is down to you".

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in a range of schools across Teesside but have always upheld the same vision. My vision for education is one where every child is both different and special. Although each child may learn in different ways I believe that, if they are to learn to their full potential they need to be exposed to a well balanced, broad and meaningful curriculum. It is important that they are provided with a learning environment that not only facilitates their learning by different strategies but one in which the children want to learn and have fun. I believe that an atmosphere where the children are not afraid to make mistakes, where what they are learning is relevant and one in which they are treated fairly, irrespective of their social background, colour or gender, will help them to become independent learners. I believe that children have a right to their own opinions and must be encouraged to respect the opinions of others when differing from their own. They also have a right not to be bullied, ridiculed or intimidated.

Tutoring Approach:

I have tutored on a 1:1 basis during my time in school, helping one child get from L3 to L4 in maths in Year 6. My approach was to reinforce what the child needed and to always put their needs first. I would use anything that I felt appropriate that would engage and get the best out of my students. I am an energetic, hardworking person who is fully committed to raising standards. I provide a friendly and fun learning environment with excellent management skills whilst having high expectations from the children. I am not afraid to take risks that challenge the children and to introduce new methods in my teaching in order to get the best out of my students, myself and that make my lessons fun and exciting. The student is the priority in the lesson and I am prepared to make sure that they succeed in what they are trying to achieve no matter what stage the child is at.

Hi! My name is Bea, and I am a native Spanish teacher from Toledo, a historic city in central Spain near Madrid with more than 20 years of experience teaching Spanish conversation and DELE/SIELE exam preparation to international students. I speak with a clear and neutral Spanish accent.

I am a certified DELE examiner accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, and I have extensive experience preparing students for official Spanish exams such as DELE and SIELE (levels A1-C2).

I specialize in helping students improve their confidence and fluency through practical and personalized lessons adapted to their goals-whether for exams, travel, work, or personal interest.

Specializations:

1. Spanish Conversation

- Improve fluency and confidence

- Real-life conversation topics

- Pronunciation and natural expressions

- Vocabulary for travel, daily life and professional situations

2. DELE & SIELE Exam Preparation

- Official exam structure training

- Speaking and writing strategies

- Mock exams with feedback

- Personalized study plan based on your level

As an examiner accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, I help students understand how the exam works and how to improve their performance effectively.

Teaching Experience:

I have more than 20 years of experience giving private Spanish lessons to both children and adults.

I lived in the UK for seven years, where I taught:

- Spanish as a first language to Spanish students living abroad who needed to maintain and improve their mother tongue.
- Spanish as a second language to international students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

This experience helped me understand different learning styles and adapt my teaching methods to each student.

Currently, I teach Spanish online to:

- School-age students

- Adults learning Spanish for travel or professional purposes

- Students preparing for official exams (DELE, SIELE, GCSE, and A-Level)

In my lessons, we not only learn the language but also explore Spanish culture through real-life situations such as traveling, food, daily communication, and practical conversation.

I use a communicative and dynamic approach that combines:

- Conversation practice

- Practical grammar

- Listening activities (videos, podcasts, songs)

I do not follow a single textbook. Instead, I use a wide range of materials (if needed) that I have developed throughout my teaching career.

I prepare structured lessons to help students:

- Reach a specific CEFR level

- Improve fluency and confidence

- Prepare for official exams

- Learn Spanish for travel or everyday communication

I offer both:

- Long-term courses (steady progress at your own pace)

- Intensive courses (fast preparation for exams or specific goals)

- All students receive personalized materials and feedback after each lesson.

I work with shared online documents where students can:

- Access lesson materials

- Complete activities

- Write notes

- Ask questions between lessons

This allows continuous learning and progress tracking.

Book a trial lesson and start speaking Spanish from day one!

Trial Lesson

During the trial lesson, I will:

- Evaluate your current Spanish level

- Practice conversation adapted to your level

Having a grammar school education myself has been most useful and that my children were educated in the independent sector gives me an insider insight.

Many of my pupils have gone onto Oxford University, Durham University, and elite Universities to study subjects such a medicine and dentistry. One of my GCSE students moved from grade 3 to grade 7 in three months and another moved 4 levels from grade 5 to 9 in 6 months.

I hold QTS and DBS. Unlike tutorial centres, I focus only on one student in a session, ensuring better progress.

I teach students between the age of 8-adult.

I lecture in Creative Writing.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced, successful online tutor. I update my teaching skills annually. I have completed my Safeguarding Certificate, Sexual Harassment Awareness, PREVENT training, and my GDPR certificate.

I have worked with Grammar Schools, Independent Schools, Public schools, selective and non-selective state schools. I have been a Head of English and Senior Leader in a highly successful Birmingham school. I have taught writing to post-grads at Cambridge Uni, Warwick Uni, Hull and York University. I have published educational research and resources, edited publications and mentored writers.

I have been an examiner for KS2 SATS, English Language and English Literature and am an Arts Awards Assessor.

I am familiar with the following curriculum:

AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR, EDUQAS, iGCSE, Essex 11 Plus, Warwickshire and Birmingham 11 Plus, IELTS,Trinity ESOL, British Council ESOL.

I have worked with pupils struggling to perform at schools which have not served them well. I have worked on behalf of schools, providing one to one tuition for LAC pupils. I have worked with very good pupils at very good schools in order to support pupils to become excellent.

I am willing to do unlimited prep. I do not pluck activities off the internet and hope they fit as I design work especially for my pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

Your child won't be placed in a group with other children who have different needs and work at different levels!

I have high expectations of your child - this helps them to reach their goals.

I will tell you the truth about your child, sharing information and assessments.

I standardise my marking in a secondary school every year.

LS's mother-

I wanted to express my thanks again. I have no doubt that LS would not have achieved a level 5 without your tutoring, and it had been left to the school. I wanted to drop you a line to thank you personally for all the help and support you have given L over the last few months. Whatever the outcome is she couldn't have done it without your coaching. Her work has definitely improved which wouldn't have happened had she continued with just the support school gave her. So thank you.( L's mother)

Personal Description:
Hello! I'm Garrie, a tutor for Maths/Physics/Engineering/Chemistry/Computing at university and secondary school level, and one of the top-rated tutors in Scotland.

I am a full-time tutor, with a background in academic teaching and research, having previously held posts as Research Assistant / Teacher at the University of Glasgow's School of Engineering.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2011 with a first class B.Eng. (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering, finishing at the top of my class. I also previously conducted postgraduate research and teaching duties at the University of Strathclyde.

I am deeply passionate about my subject and the fields which underpin it. I enjoy sharing that passion with others, and helping them to comprehend these subjects in a way that is hopefully inspiring and interesting to them.

Teaching Experience:

Having tutored for over 15 years, I've helped 500+ students improve their grades and achieve the exam results they were hoping for.

I've helped students from across the globe, including high school students sitting Scottish SQA qualifications (Nat 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, HNC and HND, etc), AS/A levels from various UK exam boards (AQA, OCR, Pearson/Edexcel and WJEC Eduqas), and University students from Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering departments across the UK. I also prepare students for entrance exams to top schools/universities, and help mature students prepare to return to education after a break.

In my previous roles I lectured course modules and supervised student projects in a top 100 global university in my role at the University of Glasgow's School of Engineering. I taught subjects of all levels across the engineering disciplines (aerospace, mechanical, electronics/electrical) - from foundation years, undergrad, up to postgrad MSc/Masters level, and have an excellent reputation and feedback within the School of Engineering.

I also taught in my role as a research student at the University of Strathclyde, providing tuition and guidance to Mechanical Engineering undergrads during lab demonstrations and tutorials.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student has individual needs and learning styles, and I aim to tailor my approach to match the student, and give them some control over how they want to be taught.

Students will have a say in what they learn from me, and how we approach it, helping me to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and structure a learning programme that complements them.

I intend for my students to gain a solid foundation and interest in their subject, and develop their own revision skills to improve their capacity for independent learning - it isn't just about passing the exam, but about nurturing an interest the subject and developing skills for the future.

I believe that the best way to learn is to enjoy yourself while doing it, so I aim to keep the sessions engaging for the student.

I am not a secondary school teacher, and do not teach like one. Feedback from clients suggests that the approach of many teachers doesn't resonate with all students, often failing to inspire them/their children to take an interest in a subject that could be interesting for them if they were introduced to it from the correct perspective. I aim to provide that missing perspective - expanding on what's taught in the classroom and filling in the gaps are left in the classroom.

Personal Description:
*CURRENTLY FULLY BOOKED FOR THE SUMMER BUT TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR SEPTEMBER ONWARDS. AVAILABLE TO TEACH GROUP SESSIONS OF 4 PUPILS DURING HOLIDAY PERIODS AND TERM TIME* RUNNING A CREATIVE WRITING FEEDBACK SERVICE BASED UPON MY BOOK 'STORY WRITING SECRETS WHICH IS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON* EMAIL ME FOR DETAILS*

My specialist teaching areas are: KS3, KS4, GCSE English Language and Literature (all exam boards) IELTS, 11 Plus preparation (English only) and SEN pupils (extensive experience of teaching pupils with autism and anxiety).

I'm a warm and friendly, ex-head of English, and I have worked within the teaching profession profession for over 20 years in both the state education and private school sector. With a genuine passion for English Literature and Language, I have felt extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to work with both young people and adults to assist them on their educational journey and navigate their route to exam success. With this in mind, I have an outstanding track record for improving pupils' grades: all of my pupils have passed their exams and most have achieved two grades higher than expected.

My most recent position was as the Head of English and Drama in a private school near Brighton, a role which I found extremely rewarding and I instilled within my department two main objectives: to create an engaging and dynamic environment for each and every student to thrive within, and nurture the child's interest in the subject in order to unlock their true potential.

I am a people person; students get on well with me and tell me that I am both relaxed and patient, allowing individuals to flourish and making learning feel "easy". I have a talent for building confidence, explaining things clearly (in a number of different ways) and providing the vital skills for revision where the aim is to thoroughly prepare and focus in the lead up to exams.

Prior to teaching I worked in a web design agency, art gallery and spent two and a half years travelling through Asia. My hobbies are photography, films, running and travel.

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching in state and private secondary schools since 2001 and have taught both young people and adults in the UK and abroad. My most recent position was Head of Faculty for English and Drama at Lewes Old Grammar School (a private school near Brighton), before relocating to Cheltenham in order to be closer to family and to set up my own private tuition company.

During my 20 years of teaching my primary focus has been teaching English Language and Literature at KS3, KS4 and KS5. As Head of the English department at L.O.G.S I successfully improved upon the high pass rates at both GCSE and A-level. By initiating innovative strategies in schemes of work and individual lesson plans I ensured that pupils at KS3 were supported effectively and given the best chance of obtaining excellent grades once they reached Year 11. Leading a team of English teachers through the changes in the exam system (from grades to the current numbering system) meant I devised imaginative schemes of work and crucial time-saving teaching techniques which ensured examination success. Last year my English department had "excellent" results whilst nationally grades dropped. I believe the key to a pupil fulfilling their potential is a combination of: the teacher-pupil relationship based upon trust, upbeat dynamic lessons which make learning fun and relevant to the world we live in, and empowering pupils with information to enable them to be independent, pro-active learners.

During my years of teaching I have worked with a range of different exam boards and led meetings to moderate and mark work accurately and effectively.

I have privately tutored pupils with special educational needs (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and weak literacy) and I am experienced in setting suitable learning challenges and overcoming potential barriers to learning.

Tutoring Approach:

As a private tutor I feel my priority is to make the pupil feel at ease and able to ask any questions whenever they need to. I very quickly ascertain the pupil's concerns, needs/objectives, and subsequently set clear targets for the pupil to achieve success at any level. I am passionate about helping people get the best from themselves and approach each pupil as an individual - as if he or she were my only student. Designing my tutoring around a student's specific needs and individual way of learning, I feel is a priority, so each course I offer is individually tailored to suit your child's needs. After a short time with me, organisation will become second nature, as I provide a folder with organised sections which gives a clear overview of the course and elements that we will work through together. I am also happy to communicate by email with their class teacher to provide extra support where required if this is felt appropriate.

I am an American actor, director, producer and coach currently living in London.

I served as Literary Producer for LOCAL Theater Company, and adjudicated the LAB, a 3 day new play festival, for 7 years, and produced it for five. She is also a script scout for Noggin Sauce Pictures, a Colorado-based film company. Their short film, MRS. DRAKE, which I produced and performed in, has been in 18 film festivals in 2017, and won several awards. I am currently working on STILLNESS, a short film I wrote and will direct, with Five Fifty Five Productions here in London.

Since moving to London, I have been focusing on TV and Film, most recently shooting an episode of BERLIN STATION in Budapest.

Teaching Experience:

I taught audition techniques with Sylvia Gregory Casting in Denver, and have been a private one-on-one acting/audition coach for over 15 years.

My corporate work includes developing leadership and communication skills thru the practical application of theatre techniques. I have delivered over 200 hours of one-on-one coaching in the last 18 months to global clients, and traveled interntaionally to lead two day workshops on leadership and confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very hands on, and take the time to get to know you and your challenges so I can address them specifically. As an actor, I am used the spotlight and the high stress situation of auditioning, and can help you navigate the pressures. I love seeing the "ah ha!" moment when something clicks into place for my clients.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Rochelle, and I am a fully qualified languages teacher with over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience.

I hold a PGCE in Modern Languages with Distinction from the University of Oxford and a First-Class Honours degree in French and Spanish from Queen's University Belfast. I also have a Master of Research (Distinction) in Arts and Humanities, with a focus on Spanish studies.

I currently teach French and Spanish at a comprehensive secondary school in Oxfordshire and offer private tuition in both languages to learners of all ages and levels. I am passionate about languages, culture, and helping others to feel confident in their language journey.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of teaching languages to students of all ages and levels, and I've developed my own language skills through living and working abroad. I spent two years in Spain as an English Language Assistant, working with students aged 3-18, during which I also earned a beginner's qualification in Galician. This was followed by a year teaching English at South Colombian University in Neiva, Colombia. I've also spent time in France as an au pair, where I supported children's English language development in a family setting.

Over the years, I've helped a wide variety of learners, from complete beginners to advanced students preparing for high-stakes exams. I'm familiar with a variety of exam boards (Edexcel, AQA, CCEA, Cambridge International) and qualifications (GCSEs, A Levels, DELF / DELE), and I've also supported students aiming for academic scholarships.

Furthermore, I am highly experienced in supporting students with additional needs. I volunteered for five years at Barnardo's Saturday Club, working with children aged 5-11 with SEND. While in Spain, I supported weekly English classes for adults with SEND and helped prepare them for the Trinity College English exams. During my PGCE, I completed a placement at a school specialising in SEND, and I continue to tutor and teach students with a range of learning and physical needs.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is always student-centred and tailored. I take the time to understand what each learner needs and wants to achieve, then work with them to create a clear, personalised learning plan. I believe that motivation and self-belief are just as important as grammar and vocabulary, which is why I also draw on research I carried out during my PGCE into self-efficacy and motivation in language learning.

All lessons are taught online, and each student receives their own personalised Drive folder for shared resources, notes, and homework. I use a wide range of digital tools to make lessons engaging and interactive.

I am patient, positive and perseverant and genuinely love sharing my passion for languages with others.

Personal Description:
I am Spanish and I am an online teacher.

I hold a BA Honours degree in languages, a TESOL diploma and have experience as a teacher of English, Spanish and Portuguese. I have lived in the three countries and worked for an American aviation company for more than 20 years which gives me a sound experience of the working world. Teaching has always been my early passion to which I am now fully dedicated. Most of all I enjoy teaching and meeting a variety of enthusiastic people willing to share and learn a foreign language.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching has always been my early passion to which I am now fully dedicated. I am more inclined to teaching young adults studying for exams, pursuing new careers, or adults that need extra skills in languages for their working careers. I have worked for an American aviation company for more than 20 years which has given me sound training and experience of the working world.

Tutoring Approach:

I am Spanish and I am an online teacher. I adapt to your learning needs of the language and level and follow the objectives you may have. I can go through the syllabus for exam preparation or work at a corporate level or merely for personal improvement.

My classes are ideal to practice speaking as well as improving grammar, any doubts you may have or bring to the session. We can work on increasing vocabulary and I can indicate where you can practice for self-study if you want extra work and improve your knowledge of the language. We will be looking at articles, listening to videos and podcasts of your interest, using interactive games and above all ensure dynamic and varied contents to enjoy.

Tutoring Approach:

In my experience, I have learned that the majority of tutors just 'turn-up-and-teach' without actually preparing. 'Understanding' is the most important thing when it comes to learning, not 'regurgitating information'. As a tutor, I only get ONE CHANCE to impart 'understanding' in a way that not only clear, but coherent. Not preparing only means the student will only get more confused. But this won't happen with me!!

In my years as a student, I remember my tutors either setting no homework at all, or random questions from some textbook they've just picked out. Pick me as your tutor, and be confident each homework has been uniquely written by myself to complement the lesson that I've taught, which contains routine practice questions, as well as a couple of more challenging ones, designed to encouraging them to 'think' outside the box.

Closer to the exams, I go through years and years of past papers, and pick out the most appropriate previous exam questions - but not too early! It's important my students have developed that deep understanding of the syllabus first. Yes - yet again, my experience has made me realise that too many tutors are using these exam past papers and 'teaching' their students with them, instead of going through the basics first.

Is it a good idea to give a bunch of papers to a student and hope they'll get on with it? Especially when the student isn't ready, perhaps hasn't learned all of the content inside out, and hasn't been walked through a single practice question, let alone an entire paper before? I focus on exam practice, but only at the right time.
