Personal Description:
I am a London-based artist, with a BA from the Slade and an MA from the Royal College of Art. I exhibit regularly with galleries in the UK and abroad. Residencies include the Abbey Fellowship at the British School at Rome and Palazzo Monti. I have been shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries and the John Moores Painting Prize. In my studio practice I use a range of painting mediums and approaches, including oils, watercolour and fresco.

Teaching Experience:

I teach Drawing and Painting in all mediums. For eight years I was a Core Tutor on the Foundation Year at the Royal Drawing School (now part of the King's Foundation). This involved leading painting workshops, one-to-one tutorials and portfolio guidance.

I have taught art to people of all ages, though predominantly to teenagers and young adults.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to work out what the student's needs are, through listening, rather than trying to impose a particular idea. Having said that, I would generally encourage drawing and painting from observation, at least as a foundation for other projects. My strengths are in painting with water colour, oil and acrylic, as well as drawing. I am able to help students build on their understanding of art history and I can give advice and guidance on any written work.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a well qualified, BA, MPhil, PGCE teacher who is looking to branch out into more private tutoring work. I have privately tutored for many years and have experience since 1996. I have taught at all key stages and enjoy my work thoroughly. Last year (2019) my A level tutees all raised their grades by at least one and have gone off to uni. Proud to add that one in particular achieved an A* in Geography A level. and another A* in history and is now at Exeter. At GCSE my student achieved the first 9 which is excellent.
Please note that my rates are based on one to one tuition. Should you wish me to tutor groups of two or more either at home or in school I am happy to do so but rates will need to be discussed prior to my commencing work.
I now have experience of working on the E Bacc and depth studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught to A level in History for adult ed from 1998-2006
I have taught Geography to GCSE-level and A level
History in school at KS 3 and 4 AS and A level
I have helped undergraduates and post graduates in archaeology, history and teaching skills.
I can also teach basic geology and archaeology and classical studies.
Classical Civilisation to A level

Tutoring Approach:

I am always keen to engage students in whatever subject they are studying. I believe in being supportive and constructive in all that I teach. I am currently working on a one-to-one project with a student with special needs.
An excellent set of results (2015) all my 10 students passed, all raised their grade levels by at least one letter. All those off to uni are about to go so I wish them all well. Three others have a year or two left at school and have asked me to tutor them over the required time span.

Personal Description:
If you needed a doctor, dentist or lawyer then you would want someone who was fully qualified and very experienced. So don't settle for anything less when you need a tutor. To get the best out of your tutoring, and hence the exam grades you want, make sure that you are getting the following:

1. Someone who will sit beside you and teach you in person. If the covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything then it has taught us that online tutoring can't hold a candle to having a teacher in the same room as you.

2. Insist on someone who is a qualified teacher. Just because someone has passed a few exams themselves doesn't mean that they will be able to teach their subject well. That's precisely why we have teacher training, to help people learn how best to convey that knowledge to others.

3. Insist on someone with plenty of experience. Practice may not make perfect, but it usually does make one a lot better, and this is often the case in teaching.

4. It's very important that a tutor knows their subjects very well and really enjoys them. Without both of these they are never going to be a good teacher.

Let's see how I measure up to these criteria. Well, I only teach in person, and from my home. On several occasions I have been offered online work, but always refused it, as I really do believe that I would be offering students a much inferior service. I have a Joint Honours B.Sc. in chemistry and physics, and for my PGCE my main subject was mathematics, and my secondary subject was physics. So I am well qualified in all the subjects that I offer: maths, further mathematics, chemistry and physics. My PGCE is from the University of Leeds, which has a very good reputation for its teacher training. I also have many years classroom and tutoring experience. As for knowing and enjoying my subjects, those who come to me for tutoring can see my large collection of maths, chemistry and physics books. I have also had a subscription to Scientific American for decades. I read maths and science for fun. Maybe that's why I gave up a very lucrative career as a software engineer to become a teacher. This is also why usually I only offer tutoring at A-level or equivalent, because I particularly enjoy teaching at this level. However, I am currently accepting a limited number of Y11 Higher Level Maths GCSE students.

Students studying maths might also be interested to know that I have written books about the best graphics calculators and also the Classwiz. So it's very likely that I'll be able to show you how to use your calculator much more effectively, which could save you time and mistakes in your exam.

Over the years many students, and their parents, have been very happy with my tutoring. Perhaps you will be too.

Please also note that I ONLY TUTOR FROM MY HOME: no exceptions. Among other reasons, this allows me to teach many more students, some of whom have been known to travel a considerable distance in order to get the right tutor.

Teaching Experience:

Let me be very frank. In the UK teaching in most schools is much less enjoyable than in many other countries. Behaviour, and what the school is prepared to spend on a teacher are often major issues. For students who genuinely want to learn this has serious implications. How qualified and experienced a teacher is may not be be a school's main recruitment criteria. Foremost may be their cost. A well qualified and experienced teacher will cost significantly more than a much younger one, so many older teachers' applications are often passed over. Also much greater weight may be given to classroom "management" skills, rather than the ability to teach ones subject.

Most of my time teaching in the classroom has been spent abroad, with a lot of it in private schools. For these schools neither behaviour nor salary is a major issue, so they recruit and retain teachers based on how well they can teach their subjects. This is the environment in which I have done my many years of classroom teaching. My years in the classroom have been spent in schools where ones teaching ability is paramount.

In regard to tutoring, this has been my main source of income for the past ten years, and most of this time has been spent teaching A-level, or the equivalent. It's probably fair to say that I spend many more hours teaching A-level than most classroom teachers, and as such I know what most students need, and where they are likely to experience difficulties.

Among the schools whose students I have recently tutored are: Ashmole Academy, Dame Alice Owen`s School, Enfield County School, Enfield Grammar School, Highlands School, Hockerill Anglo-European College, Princess Helena College, Southgate School, St. Michael`s Catholic Grammar School, The Latymer School, The Royal Masonic School for Girls, and Woodhouse College.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that when it comes to teaching I know my subjects very well. So you don't have to tell me in advance what you require help with. If you come to me for tutoring you will be able to ask me, on the fly, about any maths, physics or chemistry that you are having problems with, and I would expect to give you good help immediately.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker, aged 21, currently working in a school in Gateshead as a French Language Assistant, so I am already used to teaching my own language. I also aim to become an English teacher after completing my teaching degree in France. I will be in Newcastle until the end of May, when my contract with the school ends. After this I will go back to France to finish my studies.

I am passionate about literature and music, and would be able to teach cultural aspects of France if that is what you are looking for. I have also always loved languages since I was a child, I learnt English and German from the age of 10, I also did some Spanish and Russian at the end of secondary school, and I have been trying to learn Italian for the last few months. I would be glad to pass on this love for languages.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching French in Gateshead as a French Language Assistant. As part of my teaching degree in France I also did a short internship in a French secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very open for the way of teaching, depending on you needs and the skills you want to acquire (grammar, reading, speaking, cultural aspects of the language). I can bring along teaching resources if needed. I would be happy to discuss your needs to be able to adapt to the way of tutoring that suits you.

Personal Description:
My name is Adam and I'm based just outside Crewkerne in Somerset.

After studying Physics at the University of Bristol, I have spent the past 10 years working in the field of sustainable buildings. Alongside my professional career, I spent five years working as a private tutor between 2016 and 2021. I then took a short break from tutoring as my two sons were born, and I am now looking forward to supporting new students once again!

I specialise in tutoring Maths and Physics at KS3, GCSE and A-Level. I understand that these subjects can feel intimidating at times - I believe that by starting simple and building up step by step, any student can gain confidence and tackle even the most complicated problems. I love helping young people to surprise themselves with how much they can learn and achieve.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years of tutoring experience (2016-2021), supporting students at KS3, GCSE and A-level in both Maths and Physics, as well as one student applying to Oxford. During this time I helped many students build confidence and achieve strong results, including grade improvements at A-level. After a short break while my two sons were born, I am now returning to tutoring and look forward to helping new students succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach depends on each student and their confidence level. I aim to build understanding step by step, starting with simple problems and gradually increasing the challenge. I understand that Maths and Physics can often feel intimidating, but with a clear grasp of the basics, students can learn to tackle even the most complex questions. I make use of practical techniques such as structured practice, memory aids, and revision strategies, while keeping lessons engaging and encouraging.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Alexander, I'm 23 and I'm from Essex. I'm currently pursuing my PhD in Organic Chemistry at University College London. I graduated from the Univesity of Leicester with a masters degree in Chemistry (With A Year Abroad) in July 2018. I am able to teach chemistry well up to University level, with preference toward A-Level and GCSE standards. I can also assist in the learning of Phyiscs and Maths up to GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring pupils at GCSE and A-Level standard and since becoming a post-graduate student I have undertaken giving first and second year undergraduates tutorials in organic chemistry and working as a demonstrator in laboratory sessions of the same pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to identify my tutees core weaknesses early on, strengthen these as a priority and build from there with respect to other topics, trying to ensure everything's kept at a level playfield, and so the tutee becomes just as comfortable with what they were struggling with initially, with respect to topics they were confident about. I do this by using a variety of methods including specimen questions and information, using my own resources that I can tailor around a specific tutees needs and asking the tutee to put information they've read or been taught, into their own words so they understand the processes more clearly.

Personal Description:
I am a warm, engaging individual who loves working with a variety of people. I am currently a secondary school biology teacher, so am well used to working under pressure in a busy working environment. I have excellent creative and organisational skills; I currently plan and prepare lessons that meet every point on the specification from the exam board, whilst also tailoring it to my pupils' individual needs and attitudes.
I am self-motivated, enthusiastic, and self-aware - I deliver engaging lessons to my pupils, and help them find the world around them as interesting as I do.
I motivate and empower my pupils to achieve the very best they are capable of, adapting the lesson and resources to meet their individual needs. A key part of my role is providing quality and timely feedback to enable my pupils to progress in their learning, through a variety of methods. I am committed to continuing professional development, and regularly take part in CPD in my current role.

Teaching Experience:

Three years teaching science in both city and county schools.

• Teacher of science for ages 11-18, preparing and delivering content according to the national curriculum and/or the exam board specification, with a focus on pupils learning through questioning.
• My passion and skills lie in forming positive working relationships with my pupils.
• Managing behaviour through high expectations and following the school's behaviour policy consistently.
• Assessing learning throughout, with regular feedback during lessons, as well as tests and dedicated reflection lessons where pupils are encouraged to improve upon their work.
• IT use - creating and showing resources, IT lessons for research or revision, data entry. I am proficient at using Microsoft Office, SIMS, and Go4Schools, and am very capable of learning how to use any additional software/hardware required.
• Attending school meetings and acting on any new information given.
• Communicating with other members of staff, for example to share resources and to liaise regarding any additional needs that may arise for pupils.
• Communicating with parents through parents' evening, email, and over the phone to update them on positive behaviour or attainment, as well as when a pupil is struggling.
• Year 10 form tutor, working with head of year to deliver PSHCE content as well as cover any pastoral needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I love working with children, and this respect and appreciation is mutual within my lessons. Every pupil is an individual, and I respond to them as such. I often reflect on how I could approach a scenario differently in the future, or how to continue a positive relationship, and will approach other teachers for advice if I have not found the right approach for a certain child yet.
I expect every pupil under my care to achieve to their own full potential, and to take responsibility for getting themselves there.
I love trying new things and I am very willing to change my approach if a pupil is not understanding, or already has mastery of what I had planned. This flexibility was vital in my previous role as a supply teacher, and continues to be a key part of differentiating lessons for different abilities and enthusiasm levels.

Personal Description:
I have a Physics degree from Cambridge and still maintain an active and deep interest in the subject. Among my hobbies is close harmony singing - I run a mixed local singing group and have travelled widely in pursuit of musical excellence. I also appreciate the countryside and am happy to live, and walk, in a beautiful part of our country.

Teaching Experience:

My introduction to tutoring came through successfully helping my sons through their A-levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. The experience inspired me to look into tutoring as an alternative occupation, and, for the last couple of years, I have been pleased to take on other students. I now work part-time in software development but love teaching and find tutoring very rewarding. Generally, most of my students are working their way through their A-levels but I can also help out up to University level, either with preparation for entrance exams (e.g PAT, NSAA, STEP), or with some of the topics encountered in Maths / Physics / Engineering courses. I also do occasional work at GCSE level in these subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to treat students as individuals with differing needs. For some the key is to develop a solid understanding - subject knowledge tends to build on itself, and those who miss basic points in class can often find themselves slipping behind, feeling lost and not able to cope. For others, it involves digging deeper into the subject to perhaps make connections that weren`t at first apparent.

At all levels, I have found that guided questioning and encouraging students to think through their own difficulties is very effective. It is very pleasing to see the spark of light when an idea hits home. And once the basics are established, of course, the key to success is practice, and the development of exam technique.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Peter. I am a Geography tutor based in Belfast. The vast majority of my tutoring is online and I therefore have the experience and resources to ensure this works for you. However, I also tutor from home if this is what you prefer. Originally from Belfast and graduate of Queen's University, a Russell Group University, I moved to England once I finished my undergraduate degree. In doing so, I enrolled at the University of Reading to train in my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Once I completed my PGCE, I began teaching in a state school in Sandhurst three days per week. I have been tutoring for over ten years.

Teaching Experience:

First and foremost, I am a Geography teacher in a secondary school that is performing above the national average. I specialise in getting weaker students up to good grade by teaching them the structure they need in longer written answers. I also focus on the best methods to revise and retain information.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student will have a different approach to learning. It is therefore important that in our first lesson we sit down and work this out. You might be more visual, aural, kinesthetic, etc. Getting this right will ensure your tutoring lesson will benefit you greatly.

Personal Description:
I am a highly experienced Maths Tutor, Teacher and Leader of Maths with over 20 years of experience in both Secondary and Primary settings. During my career I have successfully tutored many students one-to-one alongside teaching in schools. I am now working as a full-time tutor. I can help those for whom maths is challenging as well as those who want to achieve the highest grades.

Ask yourself this "Is maths a mystery?" Do you wish you understood the 'why' as well as the 'how'? If you ask a question, does your teacher give the same explanation again and again? It doesn't have to be that way. My methods really work; my students increase their mathematical abilities and confidence, and can explain what they're doing. Some are so excited after my lessons that they can`t wait to tell their parents all about it! Do you wish your child was so inspired by their teacher that they voluntarily did extra maths in order to improve?

If your child has had a difficult time with maths at school, or perhaps you`ve tried other tutors and been disappointed, fear not, there is a better way. Follow other parents who have noticed their children finish my lessons with a grin, and a bounce in their step, follow other students who have excitedly messaged me after exams to tell me that there was so much they actually could do!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over 18 years. In that time, I have worked in both Primary and Secondary schools and have been the Leader of Maths in both settings. I understand the demands of both the Primary and GCSE curriculums. I have excellent subject knowledge and a deep understanding of how students learn maths as this was the focus of my Masters research. This means that I can go into any tutoring lesson knowing I fully understand the concepts and can explain them effectively. I have worked with all abilities including those with Special Educational Needs. I made the decision to become a full-time tutor because tutoring is what I love! Tutoring full-time means I can put in more hours outside of lessons to prepare and communicate with students and parents to help them with any problems or questions they might have.

I offer online lessons via Zoom. I have Enhanced DBS and am registered with the update service.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is one that is based on mathematical research and my many years of experience teaching in schools. I plan personalised learning for each tutee ensuring that they achieve their full potential. I pride myself on building excellent relationships with my tutees, and endeavour to instil in them a love of maths and a 'can-do' attitude. I liaise weekly with parents so they know how their children are progressing.

Since last year all my tutoring has taken place online. This has been highly successful with both my tutees and their parents preferring this method as it affords more flexibility and enables me to help students from across the country as well as internationally. I have worked with students from KS2 all the way through to GCSE.

My planning is completely flexible and is built around my student's progress and needs. I seek to identify common misconceptions and ensure that students have a solid foundation on which to build. I am patient and am used to explaining concepts in several different ways to find the way that works for each individual. I focus on helping students understand the 'why' not just the 'how.' Constant review is key in Maths and I build this into every lesson.

I love working with young people and am passionate about providing students with the best possible education that will benefit them throughout their adult lives. I love seeing them grow in confidence and ability as well as developing a real enjoyment of the subject. It is quite common for my students to experience a transformation in how they feel about their own abilities in maths and they frequently go on to be amongst the highest achievers in their respective cohorts.

TESTIMONIALS:

'Jackie is an outstanding tutor whose efforts helped push me to raise my GCSE maths grade from a predicted 7 to a final result of 9. Jackie always aims to create an engaging and enthusiastic environment to learn and help students advance in their studies.' Former student now studying A level maths and further maths at Sixth Form College.

'We have had the pleasure of Jackie tutoring both of our children for their GCSE maths examinations. I cannot praise Jackie enough in terms of her teaching ability and outstanding success in engaging our children in the learning experience and improving their examination results. A great deal of this success has been obtained by building the confidence of our children in maths and helping them believe that they can (and have) improved their results in this subject area. Our daughter has particularly grown in confidence in a relatively short period of time. Jackie always makes her lessons fun and engaging and both of our children have enjoyed their time with her. She clearly takes pride and pleasure in their success and I would very much recommend her services to anyone thinking of investing in maths tutoring.' Mrs B, parent in West Sussex.

'Jackie tutored both our children to help them prepare for their Year 6 SATS exams. Both of them really looked forward to their weekly lessons with Jackie as she made the lessons fun and engaging. She gave us weekly feedback on how they were progressing which I found very useful. Our daughter in particular made exceptional progress as she was really struggling with maths before going to Jackie. After a year of lessons, she had moved from the lowest group for maths in her class to the top group and told me she "loved maths now!" Both of our children achieved excellent results in their SATS exams which would not have happened had it not been for Jackie's outstanding teaching. She is very experienced and knowledgeable and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone thinking of employing a maths tutor for their children.' Mrs S, parent in Essex.

'Jackie taught me through my whole GCSE maths and helped so much. When I started in year 10 I just couldn't get my head around certain aspects of maths and I was failing but now I'm happy to say I managed to pass with a grade 5, which was above my target, thanks to her brilliant teaching! Thank you.' Former student now Head Boy at a Sixth Form in Surrey.

'Jackie was recommended to us as a maths tutor as she has many years of experience in teaching in Secondary School. Jackie teaches our child as an individual & at his pace. She goes out of her way go to make lessons fun and our son loves the games they play. She is very thorough with her updates to us as parents which we find very reassuring. In just four months we can see a massive improvement in our son's confidence & attitude towards his maths & the improvement in his maths tests are already starting to show. We cannot recommend Jackie highly enough.' Mr & Mrs D L-H, parents in Surrey

'We engaged Jackie on recommendation from another parent to help our son regain some confidence lost following the pandemic and the lengthy period of home schooling, which he found very hard work. Jackie is very patient and clear with him and lets him ask questions when he doesn't understand. He is brimming with confidence after three half terms and in his own words "the tuition is knocking his maths out of the park" and he feels he is easily grasping things in class now because he has covered it with Jackie. We also like to receive the weekly feedback from Jackie after each session. We will continue until he has completed his GSCE and would have no hesitation recommending Jackie to other parents.' Mrs A, parent in West Sussex

'Jackie greatly helped my daughter develop her maths skills in the lead up to her GCSE exams. My daughter initially lacked confidence in her abilities but with Jackie's excellent, inspirational teaching and supportive approach, was able to sit her maths papers feeling well-prepared. It was wonderful to see how my daughter flourished from having the maths sessions and I would have no hesitation in recommending Jackie to others.' Mrs K, parent in Surrey

'I have really enjoyed my lessons with Jackie. She has helped me so much with my maths and I now feel much more confident with the GCSE topics. Jackie is always encouraging. She is a great teacher and has made me feel I really can achieve success. I would definitely recommend her tutoring.' Former Year 11 student at school in Surrey

Personal Description:
I graduated from UCL-IOE with a master's degree in TESOL education. Before coming to the UK, I worked as an English teacher in a middle school in China. After graduating with a master's degree, I decided to stay in the UK for development. I have worked in different Chinese education institutions, including charity schools for overseas Chinese children, one-on-one tutoring, and teaching Chinese in different British primary schools, middle schools and high schools. GCSE Chinese is taught for the majority of my curriculum and my students have achieved very good grades.

Reference from the previous student's parents:
'When we returned from Hong Kong where our daughter had been learning Mandarin for a few years, her London school did not have a Mandarin programme so Jing tutored her to GCSE level outside of school. Thanks to Jings careful but stimulating tuition, Martha made astonishing progress, especially given she had just one hour a week, much of which was through Covid. She sat the GCSE one year ahead of her other GCSEs and achieved a grade 8. Jing's lessons kept Martha motivated and she went into the GCSE well prepared and calm She loved working with Jing and was delighted with her result! Jing was a pleasure to deal with throughout. We couldn't recommend her highly enough!' ------- Sarah Lewell

Teaching Experience:

As a Mandarin teacher for curriculum and private tuition since 2015, my major duties are:
Designing different lessons based on the learners' level. Giving English reports to the school or parents. Marking coursework and giving feedback to students. Managing students' behaviour in the classroom. Invigilating examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching method focuses on motivating students to focus more on Chinese learning through interest or the way students are interested. For example, use some catchy nursery rhymes, songs, and small games to guide primary school students who are new to Chinese. For older students, I will use the apps in computers, ipads and other electronic products to help students quickly master the words they have learned. and so on.

Personal Description:
A second year medic at the University of Edinburgh. I graduated with 44/45 in the IB.

I did not get where I am today by myself. I had help - friends, family, and teachers. I know how much impact a teacher can have, and I just want to help where I can.

Prior to Uni, I spent 2 years in the Army developing ,training and leading frontline soldiers. I have seen people from all walks of life and am committed to developing and teaching my students as well.

Teaching Experience:

Prior to Uni, I tutored final year IB students for a year. Prior to that, I did not have any formal teaching assignments, only teaching friends or some of my soldiers when I was serving. Despite that, I have been coaching for most of my life. Since I was 15 I have been mentoring my juniors in my extra curriculars at school, so I am well versed when it comes to different methods of mentoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy getting to know my students beyond their academic needs; building a connection and seeing that they are supported in any way that I can.

I also believe in understanding rather than memorizing, so I teach my students skills that will help them approach problems logically instead of just memorizing the textbook.

I am flexible and can tailor lesson times specific to the student.
