I am a native British English speaker and I have been teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults for 22 years. I love meeting people from all over the world and I absolutely love teaching! I am currently teaching part-time at an adult education college in London and I also provide additional learning support to students on a one-to-one basis. Since Covid 19 I have been teaching online. My approach to teaching is to find out what students want and need to learn. At the same time, if students are preparing for exams I focus on the skills that are needed to pass those exams. I like to get to know my students well and find out what their interests are so I can use this knowledge to plan lessons. I also review students' learning with them on a regular basis. My students tell me I am very patient and they enjoy my teaching methods. I use a variety of resources on different topics and I demonstrate various strategies that students can use to learn outside lesson times. I studied medieval languages, literature, and history at the University of Cambridge before completing an MA in Medieval Studies at the University of York. I then moved to La Rochelle (France) in 2016, where I taught English in two schools. After spending 4 months in New Zealand, I began teaching English at the Sorbonne University in Paris (2018-2020). As to tuition arrangements:

Firstly, we will discuss your goals and any areas where you particularly want to improve. We will plan the first lesson and I will inform you about some simple resources to be ready to start. We normally set up some homework to be submitted before the first lesson but this depends on the student's needs.

Subsequently I will enrol you into an online classroom designed for uploading resources, submitting homework and receiving specific feedback on it. The next step is our first lesson, where you will have a very active role and get practice, tips and continuous feedback. Following I will set you targeted homework to cement your knowledge. If after the first lesson you are not fully satisfied, you will get all the lesson fee back.

I follow the spiral learning approach and aim to review topics with my students several times to enhance their depth and long term retention of knowledge.

In addition to be keen on developing students' academic skills, I equally work on improving their attitudes towards learning, e.g. I train them to accept mistakes with a positive mindset, and use them as highly valuable learning experience in their journey. I strongly support verbal exercises so that the learner manages to feel confident on having basic conversations within the first month of learning.

Young children: I support interactive learning by role play, games and short films that include exercises. I focus on establishing excellent knowledge of the grammar and syntax rules and I introduce multiple ways to build on the vocabulary.
