I was Head of performing arts in a school in Dorset for seventeen years. During that time I worked extensively with children of all ages. I am a mature lady (60yo) with a 1st Class Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree (B.Sc) and a Postgraduate Management qualification from Cambridge University. My own 'A' Levels were Biology, Maths and Physics with a particular focus on electronics. At University I studied Maths at degree level.

After working as an Engineer I changed career in my late 20s and moved into the world of Therapy and Healing. I trained in hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy as well as Human Design. I have worked with young people utilising various modalities to help them gain confidence and choose careers/subjects that bring out the best in them. I studied for a time in a Rudolph Steiner environment so I appreciate the value of alternative approaches and Artistic therapies to educating young people. I was also a member of the Steiner Academy Appeals panel for some time in Hereford.

From 2009 to 2012 I worked in an Admin capacity for OFSTED travelling around Schools and Colleges up and down the SW of England. My particular area of responsibility was the safeguarding and protection of children.

In 2011 I attended an Introduction to Autism training with the HANDLE organisation as I increasingly meet young people struggling on the Autism spectrum so this topic is of particular interest to me. I would be able to help refer any child who needed more specialised care. Related to this I have also been studying Human Design which is an invaluable tool for understanding how unique we all are.

Parents generally find that I am a very calm and pacient tutor; I like to work at the pupil's pace and provide lots of reward, especially for the younger children (like stickers and prizes). If I find that the student needs some more help outside of my paid hourly time, I give extra time, to ensure that they have learnt the skills to the highest standard possible.

I have a lesson plan ready prior to the session, but am generally flexible in my approach to the content I teach; sometimes, the lesson focuses on helping the child with their homework or reviewing a test paper from school. To ensure learning is as enjoyable and interactive as possible, I have whiteboards that children use to brainstorm ideas or sometimes, for instance, I encourage them to use coloured card to create their own writing checklists.

I am a Specialist Dyslexia Tutor with over 10 years' experience of supporting students in secondary, further and higher education. I am a Professional Member of the British Dyslexia Association and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching Experience:
I am a fully qualified secondary school English teacher and have previously worked for three London universities as a Specialist Study Skills and Academic Writing Tutor. I currently work with students in the east of England.

I have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (PhD), with years of first hand experience in satisfactorily engaging and supporting students as I attempt to demystify and tear down barriers (or challenges) in different subjects areas. I am passionate and enthusiastic at teaching Mathematics, Physics, Engineering related modules and Computer related modules including programming as I create an empowering environment for students while demonstrating empathy, pastoral care and patience at all times. I have gained an extensive knowledge base to enable me deliver an outstanding knowledge transfer process to stimulate curiosity, interaction and connection with students in their respective subjects of interest. I have successfully tutored students at GCSE , A levels and BEng programs. During my 21 work experience years as a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ( TESOL /Teaching Arabic Foreign Learners (TAFL) instructor , I established 10 years of experience in the UK in supporting various EAL students ( including Special Educational Needs) starting from Early Years to Further Education, successfully helping them to settle in their respective educational setting and overcoming language, culture and behaviour barriers to become more engaged in the school life. Throughout my working experience, I had been successfully working closely to plan, monitor, supervise, and report development of various students. I have also liaised with EAL parents in conjunction with the teaching staff and school staff to ensure effective communication concerning the pupils' wellbeing and inclusion in school life and community.
In 2019, when I first joined Wirral Council, my role as a Arabic Bilingual Project Officer entitled my engagement and establishment of communication channels with the Arabic speaking community in Wirral, which I have done successfully. Due to my lingual excellence and ability to manage time effectively. I built an excellent repertoire with all families and service providers and managed to provide a quality service to the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Community in Wirral. I built on my previous experience when I got appointed as an Arabic/English Language Interpreter at a Language Service Provider, where I provided language interpretation in different social, educational, medical contexts, supporting Syrian families in different situations to bridge the cultural, lingual gaps to facilitate settlement and cohesion. I provided a supportive relation with most parents by providing guidance and information on the UK educational system, as part of my interpretation role is to shed light on cultural gaps and differences.

I provide a Traded Service to support schools in Wirral to meet the needs of pupils with English as an additional language (EAL) and ethnic minority pupils. My role is to facilitate good home/school communication for refugee and asylum- seeking families with aim of ensuring that each pupil achieves their full potential. I support pupils' settling into school and development of English sometimes via translations of instructions and curriculum language. I also provide support for families prior to and during admission of children with EAL to school/setting. Encourage and promote home-school/setting-community links for example: supporting schools in developing initiatives to meet the needs of EAL parents by providing information about ESOL classes and weekend community language classes. On the other hand, I provide information for staff regarding pupil's first language, cultural and religious issues, meanwhile, I support staff with any initial or ongoing pupil assessment and prepare dual language labels and materials for schools/setting.

Arabic Language Assessment Specialist, Cambridge International Assessments , Cambridge University, UK.
Successfully participated as an Assistant Moderator (Postal), to moderate the work from approximately 20 centres with candidates taking the examination in 0544/03 Foreign Language Arabic Speaking (c/w) for the June 2018 & 2019 sessions. In addition, I have also worked as an Assistant Examiner to mark the work of approximately 400 candidates taking the examination in 0508/01 First Language Arabic Reading (scoris) for the June 2018&2019 sessions, where the marking was done via RM processor. Furthermore, due to my excellence in the pre mentioned 4 modules, I was asked to perform further services with Cambridge assessments, where I was required to proofread test material for 3180/01 & 3180/02 OL Arabic June 2019. Throughout my work with Cambridge, a keen eye on detail and meeting deadlines were a key aspect of my work which extended my contracts further in 2019, when I was asked to be the Setter for the 9680/21 test material for AL Arabic November 2021.

I'm a creative, passionate, patient and empathetic teacher and careworker with years of experience supporting children across their primary school journeys to find their confidence and love of learning. Over the years I have worked both in schools as an SEND TA and a mainstream class teacher, and outside of schools supporting families and young people with SEND to access support.

Outside of teaching, I love reading, creating artwork, keeping active, pottering in the garden and discovering new films and podcasts!

Teaching Experience:
I have worked in education for nearly 9 years, starting out as a teaching assistant supporting children with a range of special educational needs which I continued to do whilst studying for a Master's in Psychology of Education and then for my PGCE.

In my time as a TA and then class teacher, I have worked with every year group from Reception to Year 6, gaining a strong awareness of the full primary curriculum and quality teaching strategies to make progress with children across all levels of confidence and experience. I have significant experience supporting children with a range of SEND, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, Down's syndrome, speech and language disorders, brain injury and difficulties with mental health and trauma.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that all learning relies on creating an environment where children feel safe and inspired to take risks, make mistakes and try new challenges. For confident learners, this allows them to take themselves to newer and even more exciting problem solving; for those who are anxious or struggling to access a subject or learning in general, this means they can discover the strategies which work for them and show themselves that they are able to move forwards.

I will always take a child-centred approach, talking to families and children about what is already working for them and figuring out together what barriers they may be facing, so that I can scaffold their learning in the most effective way for them. Sessions will aim for a balance of fun, determination and curiosity, and plenty of opportunities to look back and appreciate what they've achieved.
