I'm in my early sixties, married with four children and three Grandchildren aged 5-9 yrs. I have 40 years' experience of teaching all ages from pre-school (I used to child mind) to A level and FE students. I have taught children aged 4-14yrs in an Independent Christian School and I have helped many older students with dyslexia, ADHD and ASD to resit their English GCSE successfully. I enjoy working with adults too especially using my language teaching skills (I am CELTA qualified). I help people who have particular difficulties and those who just lack confidence, to see their very real strengths and to build on them. I can show them techniques for learning and improving their writing style, comprehension skills and spoken English in a way that suits them as individuals. I always make sure that whether or not you want to pass exams, the English you use is fit for whatever need you have - so if you just need help in speaking to Doctors and Nurses in hospital, I can help with that or if you want to start at Uni I can meet your study needs too at whatever level. I am extremely passionate about education and have a purposeful approach which takes account of students' individual learning styles. My comprehensive experience in leading Employability , Drama and Speech workshops has been most fulfilling but I also love teaching English as an additional language and singing with crafts etc. for people with learning differences. You can see from this that I am a teacher who loves teaching - education is my passion! I also love reading and researching so I can help people with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. I have been trained in this area and I have always taken opportunities to improve my teaching skills. Tutoring Approach:
I like to give personal attention to my tutees and to tailor the lessons to their needs but am happy to teach online up to 3 people together to reduce costs if that helps. We work on Language skills such as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in ESOL lessons with plenty of practice for tests if needed and when studying literature at a higher level, I encourage my tutees to relate what they are reading to current issues and events in the world so that it is relevant and interesting for them. We have lots of fun but at the same time we work intensively, reading aloud to proof read and to practise using strategies for spelling, punctuation and organising essays etc. It is a great way to prepare for further academic study and I can help to prepare students for interviews or to give that all important presentation which could lead to promotion.

My approach is open and relatively informal. I feel that tutoring works best when a relationship is established between myself and the student - they should feel free to ask questions, raise issues, and discuss any aspect of the work that interests them. English is essentially a skills based subject. Although there is a lot of content to learn at both GCSE and A level, students benefit from being able to access and flexibly use the techniques needed to study and criticize. Reading, debating, and discussing a variety of texts enables the student to develop and apply these skills in lessons and exams.

Tuition is available in English Language and Literature for all secondary years, including GCSE resits. I can also tutor pupils preparing for the 11+, and scholarship entry in Year 7 or Year 9. Tutoring sessions are specifically geared to the student's individual needs, and may include functional literacy, close discussion of a set text, exam revision, and past papers. We can follow a specific syllabus, with the flexibility to focus on any particular aspect of the curriculum if so desired, or study more organically, choosing interesting and challenging texts that offer the opportunity to learn effectively while developing a strong set of English skills.

I am a fully qualified and GTCS registered primary teacher of over fifteen years. I have considerable experience across all ages and stages and have extensive experience working with children with additional support needs, both in a classroom setting and 1-1 tutoring. I have a proven track record in delivering excellence and in supporting learners with a range of needs.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching for 10 years across all stages of the primary curriculum. I have experience of working with children with a range of additional support needs in the classroom and 1-1.

Tutoring Approach:
I try to make my tutoring sessions fun and interactive, using a mixture of ICT, games while maintaining a focus on formal written methods. I have experience of tutoring both maths and language and working to support learners needs such as hearing impairments, ASD and dyslexia.

I have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (PhD), with years of first hand experience in satisfactorily engaging and supporting students as I attempt to demystify and tear down barriers (or challenges) in different subjects areas. I am passionate and enthusiastic at teaching Mathematics, Physics, Engineering related modules and Computer related modules including programming as I create an empowering environment for students while demonstrating empathy, pastoral care and patience at all times. I have gained an extensive knowledge base to enable me deliver an outstanding knowledge transfer process to stimulate curiosity, interaction and connection with students in their respective subjects of interest. I have successfully tutored students at GCSE , A levels and BEng programs. Again, I have lectured at College and University level on Science and Engineering related subjects while promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity at all times. In addition, I have excellent communication skills and ensure I offer bespoke teaching and learning that is tailored to the student's needs or requirements. Furthermore, I am fascinated at the opportunity to engage in problem solving, critical and analytical thinking. Personal Description:
I'm a creative, passionate, patient and empathetic teacher and careworker with years of experience supporting children across their primary school journeys to find their confidence and love of learning. Over the years I have worked both in schools as an SEND TA and a mainstream class teacher, and outside of schools supporting families and young people with SEND to access support.

Outside of teaching, I love reading, creating artwork, keeping active, pottering in the garden and discovering new films and podcasts!

Teaching Experience:
I have worked in education for nearly 9 years, starting out as a teaching assistant supporting children with a range of special educational needs which I continued to do whilst studying for a Master's in Psychology of Education and then for my PGCE.

In my time as a TA and then class teacher, I have worked with every year group from Reception to Year 6, gaining a strong awareness of the full primary curriculum and quality teaching strategies to make progress with children across all levels of confidence and experience. I have significant experience supporting children with a range of SEND, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, Down's syndrome, speech and language disorders, brain injury and difficulties with mental health and trauma.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that all learning relies on creating an environment where children feel safe and inspired to take risks, make mistakes and try new challenges. For confident learners, this allows them to take themselves to newer and even more exciting problem solving; for those who are anxious or struggling to access a subject or learning in general, this means they can discover the strategies which work for them and show themselves that they are able to move forwards.

I will always take a child-centred approach, talking to families and children about what is already working for them and figuring out together what barriers they may be facing, so that I can scaffold their learning in the most effective way for them. Sessions will aim for a balance of fun, determination and curiosity, and plenty of opportunities to look back and appreciate what they've achieved.
