Studying French and Spanish at University College London gave me the incredible opportunity to live in Madrid for a year, where I became fluent in Spanish. The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

Hello my name is Anne-Marie, I am from Ireland but have been living in the UK since 2004. This is now a place I call home. I realised I had a flare for imparting knowledge when I became a basketball trainer at 15, working with Primary and Secondary pupils. Each child is an individual and so my approach to teaching and tutoring is to reflect this. I have tutored a KS3 pupil in Conversational Spanish as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award (developing a new skill), as well as a KS2 pupil in Spanish, English and Maths. I have experience of tutoring very young children (EYFS/ Reception) to help support and develop their confidence

With over 22 years of teaching experience at Dulwich College, I have a proven track record of guiding students to achieve top A-Level results, including A* grades. Now retired from full-time teaching, I offer private tuition tailored to the needs of each learner.

About Language Teaching
I believe that teaching is an art. Everyone has the potential to learn, regardless of mental hindrances. In my view, the role of a teacher is to understand both the limitations and strengths of each pupil and tailor a unique course accordingly.
The most essential requirement for a pupil is passion and the willingness to learn; the rest is the teacher's responsibility.
I started teaching Spanish as a means of earning a living when I first came to the UK in 1973. Ever since then, it has always been a source of income. I am a professional painter, but selling paintings is not a reliable form of income. I have excellent references from former students that I can provide on request.
