Personal Description:
Some of my tuition takes place via Skype or Zoom. Most students are very comfortable with this method of learning. However, I also travel to student's home's within a reasonable distance.
I am a very experienced teacher, head of faculty, head of sixth form, examiner and writer. I have recently worked for one of the major examination boards on the new specifications for both G.C.S. E. and A-Level.
During my career as a teacher I have taught English, philosophy and religious studies to Advanced level and English, history, religious studies, geography, and citizenship to G.C.S.E. I also specialise in developing study skills and examination techniques in a range of subjects. I have prepared VI form students for university and UCAS application, including Oxbridge, and acted as a mentor to new entrants to the teaching profession.
I am also a freelance writer specialising in education, social, religious and moral issues. I have written and designed e-learning resources for two international educational e-learning-platform providers.
Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience at Key Stage 3 & 4, G.C.S.E. and Advanced level has been extensive. I am an examiner for two major exam boards and have diverse experience of creating original teaching resources tailored to the needs of pupils both individuals and classes.
I have spent most of my career teaching across the ability and age range in 11-18 comprehensive schools although I have also taught in a Sixth Form College and the independent sector.
I have also been a part-time on-line tutor for one of the Oxford colleges and also tutor on-line.
I have served on several school boards of governors as a foundation, teacher and parent governor. I am currently Chair of Governors at a local primary school.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the key to success for most pupils is to develop their skills and self-confidence to enhance their ability to successfully complete their examination by developing study skills and examination techniques.
My first session with a tutee and their parents is to establish their needs and goals. Together we draw up a plan of the work which we will pursue. This plan will be reviewed regularly and a progress report compiled.
Each of the subsequent sessions comprises of:
review of any homework set
review of any problems which have occurred that week
lesson on a topic previously decided upon
My primary aim is to help my tutees overcome any difficulties which they are having with their work and to help them to achieve their goals both in the short-term and the long term. Secondly, I aim to give my tutees confidence in their own abilities and to help them develop their skills necessary to succeed in their examinations.
Relevant homework is set as a means of reinforcing the development of skills since assessment and feedback procedures largely rely on this.

Personal Description:
I'm a former humanitarian worker with a keen interest in philosophy, politics, feminism, and political economy.
I love teaching 1-on-1 and take a holistic approach to helping students. That means that I can help you with both the technical academic things you are struggling with such as planning a research project, writing an essay or dissertation, or public speaking, as well as mental blocks like self-confidence, procrastination, anxiety, and mental health. Using a holistic approach means that we can discover the root cause of whatever is holding you back from being able to excel, develop strategies to overcome these obstacles, and help you become more a confident and independent student.
I have just completed my PhD thesis as part of a fully-funded doctoral candidate in Political Philosophy, during which time I was supervised in equal parts by FINO (The Northwestern Italian Philosophy Consortium, University of Turin) and the University of Vienna.
Teaching experience:
* In 2024 I was a Visiting Lecturer in Contemporary Political Philosophy, teaching first- and second-year BA philosophy students at the University of Hertfordshire.
* In 2022-23 I taught first- and second year BA students in the Government Department at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The course I teach is an Introduction to Political Theory (from Plato to Fanon).
* I have also given lectures to Master's students in Philosophy of Technology on algorithmic pricing.
My doctoral research project is a Normative Analysis of the Political Economy of Algorithmic Pricing.
Postgraduate studies:
PhD, Political Philosophy, 2020-2024
MSc, Merit in Political Theory from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2015).
Dissertation on the moral dilemmas related to Artificial Intelligence; received a Distinction.
Undergraduate studies:
BA(Hons), 2:1 in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic from Cambridge University (2010). Included modules in history, politics, anthropology, literature, and religious studies, as well as Arabic language.
I speak the Levantine dialect (Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian, Jordanian) as well as the Iraqi dialect, and have lived and worked in Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
Teaching Experience:
I have tutored undergraduate and Master's-level students who need help writing essays or dissertations in the following humanities subjects:
Anthropology
Political theory, Feminist theory
Political science
Political economy, History
International Relations, Conflict studies, Humanitarian studies
Sociology, Gender studies
Tutoring Approach:
I provide detailed editing to help you improve both your written style and content. I cover everything from grammar and citations to structure, methodology, and line of argument. I give you resources to continue improving your academic writing even after we finish working together. These will equip you to continue working on things we will cover, such as stylistic conventions both in academic English generally as well as those specific to different social science disciplines. I also coach you in how to plan your research, how to structure a paper, building a line of argument, effective use of primary and secondary sources, and how to write an engaging and compelling paper.
I start by writing detailed comments in Track Changes, then talk you through the issues so that you can not only improve your paper or dissertation, but also learn how to write in a clear, confident, and persuasive style. Ideally, if there's enough time before the deadline, I go over another draft once you've addressed the comments. This back-and-forth ensures the very best final product in your authentic voice, and that the process has been a valuable learning experience for you.
I will also give you the opportunity to discuss personal hang-ups that might be impeding your ability to work well. I am not a therapist, but I can discuss personal issues affecting your studies, and direct you to helpful resources to address underlying issues like anxiety, procrastination.

Personal Description:
I am a published academic author, educated to doctorate level, with twenty years' experience of teaching university students undertaking foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, including both UK and international students.
I support students from a range of backgrounds, cultures and age groups, with differing interests and needs. I have worked with students with anxiety, mental health issues and learning difficulties, and understand the need to provide flexible learning to meet a range of access needs.
For foundation and undergraduate students, the range of subjects, assignments and examinations undertaken during a degree can feel daunting and can overshadow the exciting and enriching university experience. I help students to untangle the web of assignments, manage time, organise commitments and develop skills.
I can provide support with planning assignments, structuring essays and exam answers, researching and conducting reviews of the literature, preparing for seminars and delivering presentations, as well as referencing and compiling bibliographies.
I have supported (and continue to support) many international and UK PhD students, providing guidance and assistance with research design, literature reviews, writing skills, data collection and analysis, as well as upgrade, viva, and conference presentation preparation.
I also have extensive experience of conducting academic research, writing and editing publications and proof-reading reports, theses and assignments. This experience has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and skills to support not just students, but also academics in their publications.
Teaching Experience:
My diverse roles as a lecturer, private tutor, and researcher have fostered a well-rounded approach to teaching and a deep understanding of academic expectations. I have honed my skills through:
• Delivering lectures, seminars and tutorials across various social science subjects.
• Providing comprehensive feedback by marking essays, exams, dissertations and PhD theses. This has strengthened my grasp of academic rigour and student needs.
• Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and participating in PhD examination panels, offering valuable guidance, and fostering independent research.
• Developing a range of teaching materials: I have created engaging resources for various social science courses. This includes a core Study Skills module, which equips students with essential academic skills, like:
- Researching and note-taking
- Structuring academic work
- Developing writing styles
- Mastering referencing and bibliography construction
- Delivering presentations
- Preparing for exams
- Reflecting on learning
Designing this module allowed me to extensively evaluate and refine a comprehensive suite of study skills resources that I continue to use and share with my students.
My research and publication experience has also provided me with a strong understanding of academic expectations, standards and requirements, and I use this knowledge and experience to provide the most valuable support for students.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in creating a supportive, friendly, and practical learning environment where students are at the centre. Having experience with diverse learners and teaching styles, I tailor my approach to each student's needs. This flexibility empowers students to discover the learning methods that suit them best.
My sessions are professional and informative, yet enjoyable and relaxed. This creates a positive learning experience that not only strengthens student confidence but also translates to academic success. I reassure students about what they are doing right, whilst offering guidance and support to help them refine their skills and reach their full potential.
Notably, all my past students have achieved significant results, including consistent grade improvements, successful PhD upgrades, and strong viva performances. My passion lies in helping students not just master the material, but also develop the confidence and skills to excel in their academic endeavours.

Personal Description:
I am married, with one son and stepson. I am originally from the Nottinghamshire area and moved back to the East Midlands two years ago to settle in Ilkeston with my family.
I studied at Huddersfield University as a mature student and achieved both a B.Sc and an M.Sc in Behavioural Sciences, which is a joint degree in Sociology and Psychology. I also hold the PGCE Teaching qualification which qualifies me to teach Psychology and Sociology in both private and group tuition.
My strengths lie in the ability to directly relate Sociology and Psychology theory to students experiences as a means of enhancing their understanding of the subject matter. I also have the ability to teach learners up to university level.
I understand that both subjects can have difficult concepts to grasp and pride myself on my patient and understanding teaching manner which has developed from years of experience.
With an infectious enthusiasm for my subject area my main aim is to to help my students enjoy learning and reach their full potential!
Teaching Experience:
I have taught Psychology and Sociology to GCSE, A Level, BTEC and on the Access to Higher Education courses in adult education for Derbyshire County Council. I also have experience of teaching at university level helping with coursework, research and dissertations.
I have been an examiner in both Psychology and Sociology, therefore giving me a knowledge of the assessment criteria that is required for learners to achieve at their appropriate level of study.
From my teaching experiences, I have been able to build a rapport with learners both when teaching students individually and within a group setting. I have 18 years teaching experience (which makes me feel old!).
My teaching experiences have been vast in both teaching learners in groups and individually in private tuition and have achieved great success in the varying teaching methods I have used.
Tutoring Approach:
I use a variety of approaches to tutoring by using the explanatory approach and by applying Sociological and Psychological theories and concepts to students experiences. I also use the discursive approach in both when tutoring individuals in in groups. My approach to tutoring is also reflected in adapting my teaching styles to student needs and levels of qualifications and by using past examination questions for students to gain knowledge and understanding to the format of the questions, which is necessary to gain success in examinations.
Within my teaching approach, I place emphasis on analysis and evaluation of the subject matter where students are given the opportunity to understand the extent to which theories and concepts in Psychology are right or wrong and whether this depends upon the situation.

Personal Description:
I am a female primary school teacher in the Doncaster/Wakefield area. Aside from my enthusiasm for teaching and helping children to achieve, I am interested in academic areas including sociology and languages. I enjoy travel and reading. I have worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant and completed a degree in Sociology before training to be a teacher. I have also recently (September 2019) completed a Master's in Social History. I now work as a supply teacher in primary and SEN schools and as a personal tutor to primary and secondary level children up to year 9. I hold an enhanced DBS check dated September 2015.
Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. I also regularly work with secondary SEN students who are not in mainstream education. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups in academic tasks and find that children are very responsive to this lower teacher-pupil ratio. I have found that working in these situations really helps to boost children's concentration and confidence in their work. They also feel more comfortable to ask questions in areas they find difficult. When tutoring, I am to create a positive, friendly and professional relationship where children feel comfortable with what they are learning, but also feel they can ask for help when required.
Tutoring Approach:
I recognise that children learn in many different ways - some by seeing and visualising, some by talking and discussing, and some by doing a physical or mental activity. I aim to tutor children using the learning style that best suits them. In a classroom, it is often difficult to meet the needs of every child. Personal tuition provides children with valuable one-to-one time, where the focus is on them and them alone. I believe that personal tuition does much to increase achievement in those weaker areas, but also serves to challenge and develop knowledge in stronger areas. Following an initial consultation, I provide personalised programmes of study tailored exactly to meet the needs of the child involved. I am passionate about helping children to reach their full potential and will do all I can to make this happen. Sessions take place in the child's own home and are arranged on a flexible basis with parent or guardian. I am able to provide tuition from 1 hour per week to more intensive programmes consisting of several hours per week in the school holidays.
I currently have slots available on weekday evenings. Please note, I do not usually tutor on Saturdays or Sundays.

Personal Description:
My name is Mo and I am an experienced teacher of Psychology and Sociology in York.
Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified teacher of Psychology and Sociology based in York. I have over 20 years experience of teaching, I am a senior examiner for a major exam board, as well as having lead successful departments of both Psychology and Sociology.
I have had much experience of supporting students who are managing mental health issues or who are neuro-diverse. One to one tuition can provide tailored support and a safe working environment to help students flourish.
I also work as a freelance academic author and have worked with the OUP on it`s GCSE Psychology textbook and A level Psychology resources. Prior to this I have produced numerous resources for teachers of GCSE and A level Psychology specifications.
Tutoring Approach:
I offer tailored private tuition for students doing GCSE, A Level, IFP and Access courses. I am passionate about my teaching and offer a student centred approach where each session is planned and tailored to fit the needs of the student. I focus on successful exam technique and marking skills, allowing the student to develop a deeper understanding of what is required of them to achieve excellent results. The students work is regularly marked and discussed giving the student feedback as to their progress and the knowledge of how to correct any errors and gain higher grades. I firmly believe that one to one tuition nurtures students to trust their own abilities and knowledge, leading to a more confident, enjoyable and successful learning experience.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced sociology tutor and proofreader having taught in the sociology department at the University of Warwick for four years and also for a short while in the School of Languages and Social Sciences at the University of Aston. (I can also tutor at this level in modern history, politics and international relations). I have BA in sociology and politics from Oxford Brookes University and an MSc in social science research methods from Sussex. I completed my doctorate at the University of Warwick. In addition to my university work, I have tutored for a private agency (where I held an advanced CRB certificate) at A-level in sociology, politics and modern history. My last DBS was held from 2023 to 2024. I have a good record of helping A-level students to achieve the grades they require for a place in higher education and I have continued this success whilst tutoring independently. I live in Marlborough, Wiltshire.
At A-level I am happy to help with essay writing and subject research and prep for exams. Please contact me early in your studies though (early in the academic year, as early intervention has greater rewards...).For undergraduates, I can offer advice on essay and dissertation construction and also on writing style and format. Additionally, I can help to formulate ideas for research projects and can proof read long or short drafts.
I charge £50 per week for ongoing students - A-level or undergraduate - one-off jobs are charged according to the complexity of work - I do not charge hourly. I take payment in advance.
Teaching Experience:
I have tutored at A-level and taught at undergraduate level for 7 years. I also worked as a sessional lecturer at Aston University for a year.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is simple: I help to give students the skills and knowledge they require to achieve their goals in education.

At the moment, my main areas of expertise are philosophy/critical thinking and sociology but I've previously privately tutored students in biology, maths, psychology and english for many years.
I was born in Sri Lanka but I grew up in Australia and New Zealand. I moved to the UK, to do postgraduate study and can't seem to leave :)
Teaching Experience:
University Teaching:
Lectures: Introductory Lecture on Buddhist Account of Personal Identity (Oct 2018), Environmental Ethics and Future
Generations (Lent Term 2021)
Supervisions (2018 - Current), Cambridge University supervisions, both group and individual, for papers in the faculties

I've also been a tutor from 2009 -- 2018, both privately and working for Tutoring Australasia. During this period I taught, philosophy, english, maths and psychology.
Tutoring Approach:
I specialise in teaching students to do just that little bit better in exams and in fundamental skills that will be useful to them throughout their education, such as writing clearly and engagingly.
Learning should also be fun and tailored to the student; ideas don't really come alive unless they feel relevant. So even my university teaching uses sources that are accessible and interesting to the student, like podcasts and youtube videos.

Tutoring Approach:
I use Kolbs learning cycle as a benchmark for my training/teaching. It is focused on learning through; observation, abstraction & reflection, experimentation (do & feel) and recycling (concepts, ideas, etc.). It is very practical and puts the learner at the heart of the learning experience. It also involves the motivation, interest and the curiosity of the learner, who may need stimulation, encouragement and to find leaning is fun and fascinating.
My lessons are both guided by the specific requirements of each course and personalized to meet the needs of each individual student. These two factors are fundamental to ensuring individual students utilize resources, build general, academic and practical competence to fulfil their requirements and exam grades. I believe having a clear 'road map', ensures students can reach their goals.

Personal Description:
(Note: I can tutor in-person until September 17th; after that I can only do online lessons)
I'm currently working at a 2:1 standard on an interdisciplinary degree at the University of Nottingham. This program allows me to weave a rich academic tapestry, blending sociology, politics, theology, and more.
From a young age I've held a deep love for learning, and I would be genuinely thrilled to facilitate it in others. On my uni course I have developed and delivered high-quality presentations and written many first-class essays. At college meanwhile, I ran the LGBT+ club at which I taught lessons and developed displays explaining the histories of marginalised groups. I am highly interested in social issues, spending time every day reading about current affairs, political theory and so on. I also love to watch films as well as read and write poetry. I am currently in the early stages of working on a novel. I enjoy practicing French. Finally I am a Buddhist, a teaching I came upon through my own research into philosophy, religion, spirituality and their histories.
Teaching Experience:
Although I haven't taught professionally, I endeavoured to make LGBT+ club educational when I ran it by teaching 'lessons' on LGBT+ history and issues. I have also practised this kind of skill through my presentations. Meanwhile, as a member of my college's student union I developed educational displays for the Black and LGBT+ History Months.
Alongside high academic grades in the subjects I hope to tutor, I have other subject expertise. I have done volunteering and paid work with multiple charities, written a screenplay for Film Studies A Level as well as several successful articles, and written and delivered a speech to the Mayor of London about knife crime. These achievements demonstrate my experience with sociological and political issues, film studies, and English.
As a course representative for A Level Sociology at my college's open evenings, I did a lot of explaining and demystifying sociology to people who were coming in at various starting points ranging from those having done the GCSE to those having never heard of it. Several prospective students and their parents came in sceptical, unaware of what sociology was let alone its value, and came away interested in potentially studying it.
I've certainly practised patience when it comes to looking after my friend's younger brother! Besides this, I have cultivated a lot of this virtue through working with a variety of customers in my retail work. We had some regular visitors who were dealing with mental health difficulties which especially allowed me to grow my compassion.
Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy finding ways to explain things to people that makes the complicated, easy. What I think sets me apart is my philosophy. Education isn't a one-size-fits-all process. It's a personal journey, and everyone has their unique rhythm and route. Whatever aspect of the subject is proving challenging, whether that's understanding the concepts or working according to the mark scheme, I hope to help students overcome it in a way that works for them and gets them a grade they truly deserve. I would point the way and show them examples at each step.
Not a single person in this world sees things exactly the same way; I would show my students how to take the ideas in their head and to synthesise pieces of evidence and analyse the content in an academic and structured way to get their points across with impact. My intention is not simply to share my techniques but rather to use them as a springboard and get to know my students so that, together, we can figure out ways of studying that really work for them.
I know school can be tough- seriously, I've been there. My aim is not to dictate, but to guide, to help students understand their subject in a new light. I want to delve into the curriculum in a way that makes it click, that reframes how my students see it.

Personal Description:
I am a passionate and dedicated educator with a strong background in social sciences, committed to making complex ideas accessible and engaging for students. With a First-Class Honours degree in Social Anthropology from a Russell Group university, Qualified Teacher Status, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (passed with distinction) specialising in Sociology and Psychology, I bring both academic rigor and a deep enthusiasm for the subjects I teach.
I thrive on fostering curiosity and understanding, using contemporary examples to bridge theory with real-world relevance. My ability to simplify intricate concepts ensures that students not only grasp material but also develop critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom.
With experience working across mainstream and private educational settings, I have supported students with diverse learning needs, tailoring my approach to ensure every learner reaches their potential. My organised and driven nature, coupled with a keen interest in sociology and psychology beyond academic settings, allows me to create enriching learning experiences that inspire confidence and engagement.
I firmly believe that it is a privilege to be part of a student's learning journey, helping them unlock their potential and sharing in their success. Whether working one-on-one or in group settings, I am dedicated to providing a structured yet approachable learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and motivated to excel.
Teaching Experience:
With over a decade of experience in education, I have had the privilege of working with students across diverse learning environments, tailoring my approach to meet individual needs and foster academic growth.
For 10 years, I worked as a teaching assistant in a private specialist provision, supporting young people with a range of complex needs. This role allowed me to develop a deep understanding of differentiated learning strategies, adaptive teaching methods, and the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive educational space. Working closely with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams, I honed my ability to navigate challenges with patience, empathy, and professionalism, ensuring that every learner felt empowered in their educational journey.
In the past 3 years, I transitioned into mainstream settings, specialising in GCSE and A-Level Psychology and Sociology under both Edexcel and AQA specifications. In this role, I have had the opportunity to lead students through rigorous academic content, equipping them with the analytical skills needed to engage critically with complex theories and real-world applications. My experience in mainstream education has reinforced my ability to deliver structured yet accessible lessons, bridging foundational concepts with contemporary examples to enhance engagement and understanding.
Across both specialist and mainstream settings, my commitment remains the same-to create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and confident in their abilities. Whether working with learners who require tailored interventions or guiding students through demanding academic curricula, I am dedicated to ensuring each individual reaches their potential.
Tutoring Approach:
I am an experienced and approachable tutor with a strong subject specialism in Psychology and Sociology, dedicated to helping students maximise their academic potential. In my current role at a high-performance secondary sixth form, I facilitate targeted intervention sessions, supporting students in attaining higher grades by refining their understanding of complex topics and exam techniques.
My approachable nature and in-depth subject expertise allow me to build trust with students, ensuring they feel confident engaging with challenging material. I focus on scaffolding knowledge and skills, carefully guiding learners through structured progressions that enhance comprehension and application. Additionally, I am adept at modelling effective written responses, empowering students to meet the demands of their content and develop strong analytical and evaluative skills essential for excelling in assessments.
With a tailored, student-focused approach, I strive to create an environment where learners feel supported and encouraged to push their academic boundaries. My goal is to help students develop confidence, critical thinking, and a mastery of subject content, equipping them with the tools they need for success in both exams and beyond.
