I believe that the key to success for most pupils is to develop their skills and self-confidence to enhance their ability to successfully complete their examination by developing study skills and examination techniques.

My first session with a tutee and their parents is to establish their needs and goals. Together we draw up a plan of the work which we will pursue. This plan will be reviewed regularly and a progress report compiled.

My primary aim is to help my tutees overcome any difficulties which they are having with their work and to help them to achieve their goals both in the short-term and the long term. I first started tutoring some of my fellow students in Elementary Logic during my second year at University and greatly enjoyed helping people improve their understanding of the subject and gain higher marks. Once my degree was completed I began tutoring A-Level students in Religious Studies and Philosophy in the Leeds area before moving to East Sussex.

The potential of tutoring can only be maximised if each student feels comfortable in lessons, so I actively try to cultivate a good working relationship with each student. I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm about to publish my second memoir and published a book called Writing Memoir. I am a philosophy student at Roehampton University. I am from the South Downs in Hampshire, where I lived until I was 18. I have been studying here in London since September 2017. I have been a qualified teacher for 7 years now teaching Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics across all year groups including A-Level. Christianity, Islam and Judaism would be my specialist religions at GCSE level. I have taught AQA and Eduqas exam boards at both GCSE and A-Level and I have tutored for OCR A-Level. Pupils who I have tutored have gained up to two grades above their target. I am the current subject lead in my department, achieving above national average with my students. I have been also a facilitator for Best Practice, this means I have facilitated the CPD training for Early Career Teachers in their first year of teaching.

We work as a team- team work makes the dream work as they say! I believe everyone can be taught something once they are inspired and enjoy the learning experience. Firstly, I wish to see what my tutee struggles with and/or lacks confidence in and then aim to build up their confidence in those areas.
