I am a teacher of French, Italian and Spanish in St Ninian's High School, within East Renfrewshire. i graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a joint Honours degree in French and Italian (language and studies) for which I gained a 2:1. I also have a Masters in Marketing which I also obtained from the University of Strathclyde. I spent a year abroad in Lyon, France, during my fourth year of university, where I worked as an English Language Assistant in two high schools. I take a different approach to my tutoring depending on the individual I am working with. On my first session with my tutee I will find out the areas that they are experiencing the most difficulty in, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, as this will help me to develop an effective and helpful way of teaching. I prepare various worksheets, practice tests and activities which are interactive and will allow for valuable learning. I will ask the tutee what their preferred way of learning is and look at ways in which they successfully learn in other subjects and try to incorporate this in to my way of teaching. I encourage tutees to ask questions wherever necessary and to state if they wish me to try a different approach. Having completed a full-time degree and worked extensively in educational environments and contexts, I am equipped with plenty of different learning methods - including, through my theatrical background, more kinaesthetic or practical approaches, particularly suited to students who may struggle with 'book learning'. I am a qualified teacher of English with many years of study, research and training in some of the world's top universities. My qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in English Literature and the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in English. My Initial Teacher Training covered all aspects of English and all abilities in the 11-18 age range. My interests, of benefit to many students especially at university level, include Critical Theory, Classical Literature, and African Literature. I have guided many students doing research and proof-read their dissertations. I have also taken the official training for one-to-one tutors rolled out by the government to complement classroom teaching. I have been marking GCSE English Language and Literature exams for a number of years and served as Team Leader for the June 2013 exam series with Edexcel. I'm in my early sixties, married with four children and three Grandchildren aged 5-9 yrs. I have 40 years' experience of teaching all ages from pre-school (I used to child mind) to A level and FE students. I have taught children aged 4-14yrs in an Independent Christian School and I have helped many older students with dyslexia, ADHD and ASD to resit their English GCSE successfully. I studied English Literature at Edinburgh University, graduating with a First Class Masters in 1999, before going on to train as an actor at the prestigious London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2001. Since graduating, I have worked extensively as an actor in theatre, television and radio and since 2007 I have worked very closely with acclaimed theatre company The Factory as an associate producer and director as well as an actor. I have a wide-ranging interest in the arts (from contemporary music through to cinema and the visual arts) as well as an active interest in politics and current affairs. Tutoring Approach:
Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. Personally, I believe that conversation is the key to becoming fluent in a language, but at the same time I do not neglect the importance of writing and reading comprehension. I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm about to publish my second memoir and published a book called Writing Memoir. Hello, I'm Leanne and I've been an English lecturer for 20 years. I aim to instil in every student the confidence, knowledge and mindset to succeed and excel with their English.

English is my passion - I love everything about the language and love to share my passion with my students. My students come from all over the world - Europe, China, Japan, Pakistan, Africa, Saudi Arabia and the UK. Although I teach all aspects of the English language, I am a specialist in ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language.

I'm extremely patient, professional, friendly, honest and committed to ensuring all of my students succeed and make excellent progress. I go beyond what is expected to ensure my students exceed all expectations.

Teaching Experience:
For the last 20 years I have worked as a permanent English lecturer at a large further education college in Birmingham City Centre.

My main role has been to teach English to speakers of other languages and to improve these students' skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, from Pre-Entry to Level 2 and IELTS.

I am very experienced with lower level English language learners where English has been a second or third additional language.

I aim to make learning English an enjoyable and rewarding experience through a variety of different teaching and learning styles.

I understand that every learner is completely unique. We will work together to create a bespoke learning plan at the start of the learning journey and monitor progress on a weekly basis to ensure that all objectives are met or exceeded.

Teaching Experience:
Having 12 years teaching experience both in Greece and in England in different settings (language schools, summer school, primary schools, secondary schools and colleges) I am fully aware of the different methodologies that are to be used with different students. I am an experienced, enthusiastic and focused English and Greek teacher committed to safeguarding and promoting the education and well-being of children and young people. The past 5 years my experience in the British schools as a supply teacher and a permanent TA in a Primary School have equipped me with the necessary skills to apply my knowledge in different contexts. Also, the past 3 years I have been teaching Academic English at Nottingham Trent International College and Nottingham University. My permanent job is English tutor at Derby Adult Learning Service.

I have experience tutoring psychology graduates, postgraduates PCert and PDp with their dissertations, exams, article comprehension and critical reviews. I can help with SPSS questions, and provide guidance in ANOVA, regression and essay writing. I have over 15 years of experience teaching and tutoring in a variety of situations - in primary and secondary schools, universities, after school programs, and online. I have held many different positions with the schools and educational companies I have worked for, including head of department, senior teacher trainer, private personal tutor, and classroom teacher. I am a qualified counsellor with a background in Psychology and I run a small private therapy practice alongside tutoring and teaching. I therefore have a lot of real life examples to use during my Psychology tutoring specifically as I am an active professional member of the mental health field. I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, as well as the Association of Christian Counsellors, which means I have a good working knowledge of ethics frameworks and current and up to date professional practice and code of conduct.

Outside of work, I enjoy walking, hiking, camping, listening to music, attending church and volunteering, creative projects and reading. I also like to travel, although I don't get chance to do it as much these days as I would like to!

Teaching Experience:
I spent a number of years teaching English as a foreign language overseas, in both Sri Lanka and Taiwan. I have also taught outdoor activities to groups of school children in the UK.
