Tutoring Approach:
My first step is always to assess exactly where my student is at so that I can plan the content for sessions accordingly and make sure that they get the best out of each lesson. If there are any gaps in the foundations of their knowledge we can then attack these head on. My approach is thus very organised and tailored to the specific needs of the student, with small goals set per session alongside a long term goal to work towards. I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. My personal strengths lie with supporting the student with exam technique. For example, how to answer exam based questions using specific subject terminology and focusing strongly on how to write these answers in an academic way. I use techniques such as scaffolding and modelling to embed these concepts, and this has proven successful with my cohort of students.

Most importantly, I aim to create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and are motivated to keep improving.
