I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. I had to use my knowledge of French to help one student who had not yet learnt to speak fluent English, translating the teacher's instructions for her and helping her with words she did not understand. Between 2009-10, I helped to run two after-school classes for Key Stage 2 pupils, one in Literacy and Art and another in Drama. This involved planning and delivering lessons to classes of about 5-10 children, and keeping them engaged with the topics they were learning through activities designed to both teach and entertain.

My experience of tutoring has shown me the importance of patience and respect in teaching. I have relevant experience applicable to teaching. I have over 7 years experience working with complex children aged 15-18, facilitating psychological interventions on a 121 and group basis. I take a client-centred approach and have been trained in Motivational Interviewing. I have passed my qualification component related to training others: the skills I have developed both in facilitating and training are applicable to 121 tutoring. Through my various years as a Professional in Psychology Services, I have excellent and professional writing skills as well as oral presentations. I can therefore provide support in essay writing, scientific research and presentations.

I take a client-centred approach, exploring preferred learning styles and can use Motivational Interviewing to collaborate, elicit and provide autonomy to students.
