I had to use my knowledge of French to help one student who had not yet learnt to speak fluent English, translating the teacher's instructions for her and helping her with words she did not understand. Between 2009-10, I helped to run two after-school classes for Key Stage 2 pupils, one in Literacy and Art and another in Drama. This involved planning and delivering lessons to classes of about 5-10 children, and keeping them engaged with the topics they were learning through activities designed to both teach and entertain.

My experience of tutoring has shown me the importance of patience and respect in teaching. Especially in essay-based subjects, it is crucial that a teacher allows their pupils space to develop their own ideas, and respects their independent thought. Learning by rote has only limited usefulness: the best way to excel at a subject is to understand it, so I always explain concepts as fully as possible and move at the tutee's pace, making sure that they have properly grasped each concept or issue before moving on to the next. My Schools Plus training emphasised the idea that the goal of tutoring is to help a student to help themselves, enabling them to tackle problems rather than solving things for them. Throughout my career, I've led successful Psychology departments and helped countless students build confidence and achieve their goals in this fascinating subject. I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and specialise in the AQA specification at A Level and Edexcel specification at GCSE.
Moving forward, I'm focusing on one-to-one tutoring, where I can bring the skills, experience, and passion I've developed over many years in the classroom to support students on a more individual level. Private tuition gives me the opportunity to tailor each lesson to the tutees' unique needs, helping them to make real progress in a focused and supportive environment.
I offer a 15-20-minute initial meeting at no cost, giving myself and prospective tutees a chance to get to know each other, discuss goals, and see how I can best support their learning before committing to regular sessions.

I also introduced Edexcel GCSE Psychology at my last school, where our students' achieved results in the top 15% nationally. I've worked as an AQA examiner, so I know exactly what examiners are looking for when marking papers. As an experienced Sixth Form tutor, I've supported countless students with writing strong UCAS personal statements. Whether students are just getting started or need help refining a final draft, I can help students showcase their strengths and stand out to universities.
