I've been tutoring Maths, Science and English since 2007, for ages 5 to 50. However, I mostly help teenagers with their SATs, GCSEs and A Levels.

Maths, Science and English are the three main subjects that people tend to want tutoring in. (Actually it's five subjects if you break the Science down into Biology, Chemistry and Physics.)

Anyway, as I tutor all of these subjects, my students find it very useful that I can potentially cover a different subject each week, or I can do two hours a week and cover a different subject in each hour.

This obviously makes it much easier for the parents too, because they don't have to find a separate tutor for each subject, or leave their child without the valuable one-to-one support in any of the core subjects.

I've also helped my students with pretty much every major school subject; from History and Religious Studies, to French and Spanish, and even Psychology and Health and Social Care. In fact, experience has shown me that I can help anyone to better understand anything - even something that I didn't even know myself a minute earlier!

I specialise in both face-to-face and distance learning over the internet. I am a friendly and approachable 35-year-old lecturer in physics at a local university in Sheffield. I completed my Ph.D. and MSci. degrees in nuclear physics at the University of Birmingham. Alongside my university teaching commitments I am an active researcher and supplement my teaching with references to up-to-date advances in physics.

I have 12 years of experience teaching university level physics and mathematics. This includes theoretical, lecture-based subjects along with hands-on practical, lab-based teaching. In the cases for tutoring mechanics, my tutee found it difficult to identify and link various components of the forces together and to grasp the content clearly. Thus, I investigated the source of this lack of understanding then gave a clear explanation and support. Afterwards, I managed to explain various application questions using the struggling contents and interacting with my tutee (ie. asking what the next step would be) as I went through the questions to expand his understanding. I shared my method of working out the questions logically and giving clear guidance helped him greatly, hence, I was able to see improvement in his speed of understanding and solving of the questionnaires, showing a transition in his grades in Mathematics.

I challenge pupils on what they already know to ensure it is correctly reinforced and their confidence grows. I tutor using reciprocal learning, where students are able to independently learn a topic and then have a tutorial style lesson where they reinforce that learning. I'm a fully qualified secondary Physics teacher with four years of classroom experience, having taught in South Lanarkshire and now working in an East Renfrewshire secondary school. I'm enthusiastic about making Physics feel less intimidating and helping pupils build confidence in a subject that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

I have four years of experience teaching secondary Science and Physics, including National 5 and Higher Physics.
