Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. Teaching Experience:
During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. In maths and the sciences, understanding a few key principles lays the foundations for learning. It's easy to feel lost when certain fundamentals are glossed over as they sometimes are in school lessons. This is why in my approach, I will initially try to identify a student's strengths, learning style and gaps in understanding in their own words, then use this to tailor our focus to the right areas. It goes without saying that I aim to ensure that they're able to answer exam questions successfully but it is equally important to me that they feel comfortable asking questions and engaging.
