I am an independent tutor with a strong scientific background and have lived in England since Aug 1965. Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. We have a son and a daughter; both graduated from Universities in Manchester. Following my voluntary redundancy from AstraZeneca, (Jun 2008), I am now a self-employed Tutor / Consultant. Teaching Experience:
During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. In the past, I have also been responsible for organising and running the weekly classes at the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara), for teaching youngsters the Sikh way of life & Punjabi culture, in helping to improve their knowledge and integration into the Western Society over a period of ten years.

I can provide tuition to individual students (or small groups) in the form of friendly, relaxed lessons. Teaching sessions are always customised to meet the specific requirement of the students. Generally, I enjoy teaching and considered to have a caring approach. I use a combination of computer and 'white board' based approach, for creating informal interactive / discussion type sessions, with some form of regular tests and re-cap sessions. As a teenager I was lucky enough to receive tuition myself and it made a huge difference, so I really know how much of an advantage it gives.

Tutoring is my full-time job and has been for many years.

I have just finished a PhD in maths at Newcastle University so it goes without saying I'm enthusiastic about both maths and physics. On top of this I have a wide variety of interests, and this allows me to find ways of explaining things that the people I'm tutoring can relate to.

While studying at Newcastle I've taken many tutorials for students taking courses in Maths. For the past 6 years I've also worked in a tutoring drop-in centre where any student at Newcastle University can come to ask maths questions. I care deeply about teaching and learning in general and the teaching of mathematics is a particular passion for me. I am a secondary school mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I have completed a BSc in Accounting, an ACCA qualification and a PGCE course. I am currently studying for my MSc Education degree. I have 20+ years experience as a tutor and 10+ years as a teacher. I have also worked for an acounting firm for 5 years and worked as a company director for 7 years.

My first session is provided free of charge and I use this session to understand the needs of prospective pupils. At the end of the session, I have a frank and honest discussion with the pupil and/or their guardians. I use these conversations to listen to the concerns of the pupils and/or their guardians and present an outline of my assessment of the student's areas of strengths and weaknesses. I also suggest a course of action to help the pupil move forward.

I have been providing tuition in mathematics for over 20 years and have been a secondary school Mathematics Teacher for over 12 years. I have experience teaching to individual students, to small groups and to classes of up to 35 students. I have helped four year old pupils take their first steps in arithmetic and forty plus year old students finally understand how algebra works.

I have helped students gain confidence in their own mathematical ability when they have been convinced by the academic system that they are incapable of doing well in the subject. I have also helped higher attaining students to challenge themselves and aspire to become even better. Most recently I helped 2 students achieve a grade 9, one for GCSE Maths and another for IGCSE Maths. One of these students also received an A grade for Additional Maths. Tutoring Approach:
During the last two decades I have worked with many hundreds of students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. I also believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students' engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance. I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once they develop in confidence I encourage all my students to challenge themselves regularly. As well as having designed numerous large-scale experiments, my practical hobbies include classic car restoration and designing and building the places where I live. Engineering is one of the hardest subjects you can study, and it doesn't help when module content is disorganised, learning materials are messy and hard to follow, and when lecturers are too busy to respond to your questions. My overall aim is to teach you to become an independent learner, to teach you how to learn, so that you can learn regardless of the support from your university, and so you can continue learning when you leave university into whatever career path you take.

I am a GTC (General Teaching Council for Scotland) registered Maths teacher with a first class hons BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Edinburgh University and a background in engineering and industry.

While I am highly academically qualified, I understand how it feels to struggle with study and the benefit of getting extra support. I found parts of maths and language difficult at school and was lucky to have a couple of very understanding teachers who helped correct the damage to confidence and understanding left by some rather less sympathetic practitioners.

I have many interests from sports and the environment to languages and the arts and believe in lifelong learning to help gain new skills remain adaptable and responsive to change. A positive relationship between tutor and tutee is essential for effective learning, so building a respectful and trusting dynamic is the basis of my work. I always seek to focus on improving and deepening understanding with an approach that reduces anxiety and builds confidence and motivation.

My teaching style is collaborative and supportive. I am friendly and approachable with a real concern for each student's experiences, passions and difficulties and how I might best help them. I take a flexible approach to build positive relationships with students of varying interests and personalities.

Building a student's understanding of the fundamentals of the subject is key as this leads to deep and effective long term learning and will build confidence in the student and also their cognitive abilities to perform at higher levels.

I also work hard to help students improve their study techniques and to become more independent learners and more reflective and critical thinkers. This helps students to achieve at their best in all subject areas and also to develop the resilience and self-directed study skills needed to succeed in their future studies.

Personal Description:
My name is Adenike. I am a graduate of University of South Wales, with a PGCE in Numeracy /Mathematics. I also had a first degree in Computer Forensics. I have the ability to develop good relationships with students, am patient, caring and kind. I have good oral and written communication skills, l am organise and very detailed.

Teaching Experience:
My acquired skills in the university gave me the opportunity to teach learners mathematics and ICT according to the curriculum requirements, at different settings namely: elementary, high schools and post - compulsory education. I have worked as a supply teacher in various schools in Newport, Cardiff and Barry. I also have had the opportunity to support learners with special education
needs to achieve learning.

Tutoring Approach:
I used various teaching strategies to achieve effective teaching and learning. I prepared learning resources according to the learners need, so they can achieve learning. I also used additional learning resources such as: online maths games, quizzes and cards to achieve effective teaching and learning.
I regularly assess my learners to ensure learners are acquiring all the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare them for the external GCSE examination. All the years, learners have come out in flying colours in their GCSE results at the end of their programmes and they proceed either to the College or University for further studies. Teaching has been very rewarding for me, because l have supported learners that are now fully qualified in various fields and it does make me fulfil in life.

Personal Description:
MPhys (Integrated Masters) Physics and Astrophysics graduate at the University of Leicester. Currently working as a Systems Engineer at Thales, I enjoy teaching fundamental science and mathematics and spreading awareness of STEM.

Teaching Experience:
I have worked as a private and with different organisations as a tutor for the past 8 years teaching Physics and Maths at different levels to various age groups.
I have also held my work as a summer school physics teacher, overviewing the basics of physics to students looking to study further. Additionally, I have also been in an internship at the Abingdon School, Oxford, teaching GCSE and A level Physics and Maths, obtaining vital teaching school to students at different levels.

Tutoring Approach:
I approach teaching through storytelling rather than compound teaching. Firstly understanding the level of the student, and the background knowledge they have within the subject.
I then generate a plan according to what they know and teach them utilising different facts and a lot of problem-solving.
Having a good insight into what the student lack, and understanding why they lack the skills allows me to generate a targeted lesson, and help them understand and enjoy learning Physics & Maths.
