I am a postgraduate from the Documentary Photography course at Univeristy of Wales, Newport (graduated in 2000). I have worked as a professional freelance photographer since graduating giving photography classes, workshops and conferences to students of all levels and ages. I have extensive experience a reportage photographer, not only in undertaking magazine assignments but also wedding and portrait work. As a photographer and tutor I can offer an in-depth knowledge of darkroom practice as well as digital software editing(i.e. Photoshop, Capture One Pro, Lightroom), having worked both with film and digital media for the past 15 years.

Teaching Experience:
I have over ten years experience in giving photography classes and workshops to young learners (residential camps giving classes to children aged 11-16 years of age) and adults at all levels and abilities. A computer science graduate and former software engineer that got out of the 'rat-race' in 2001 to develop my own coaching business. Martial Arts/Self Defence:

I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with nearly 40 years experience) and have been teaching now for around 30 years.

At my school in Dursley I have students of all ages from five years up to those in their sixties's. I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience. It goes without saying that I have a current DBS, first aid and am fully insured. I am a highly experienced educationalist with a wholistic approach and a wide range of work experience before training as a teacher.

Prior to becoming a qualified teacher my professional experience includes IT, social work, property maintenance, music, photography and education & employment while my studies at undergraduate included nine subjects. I therefore draw upon a wide range of experience, knowledge and practice and believe that personal development is one of the most important and fulfilling things we can engage with in life.

I gained my PGCE in Secondary Education (Maths) and worked in Adult Education and Family Learning for many years whereby I delivered accredited courses in Mathematics (up to GCSE level) and non-accredited courses in English and IT. In utilising my experience of working with mental health I set up and ran the only Maths for Mental Health group in Sussex which, although successful, unfortunately was terminated due to lack of funding along with my Family Learning teaching practice.

During the time of working in the Education & Employment sector I was responsible for skills development of various special needs groups so I have a solid understanding of and experience in a wide variety of educational needs. This experience also laid the foundation for a fixed term contract at a college for SEND students where I delivered a Maths curriculum to groups of SEND young adults within the QCF accredited curriculum.

I now I teach A Level Fine and and A Level Photography, alongside a 19+ (Adult) course in Art and Design, where I teach across a range of specialisms, from Dark Room and Studio Photography, Textiles, Printmaking, 3D Design, Digital Arts, Visual Language and Contextual Studies (Art History), Study Skills and Exhibition Preparation.

Tutoring Approach:
Having diverse experience across a range of ages and subjects, I have developed a broad understanding of the different learning styles students and therefore develop individual learning plans, based on the needs and interests of the students and the requirements of the awarding bodies.

My aim is to build on confidence and deepening knowledge and skills to ensure the student can work independently and to a high standard. I understand that every students skill will be different and aim to build on their current level, to reach their potential.

I am a patient and compassionate teacher, but I also set high expectations and motivate the students to meet the demands of whichever course they may be on. I form excellent working relationships with my students, which is built on mutual resect and trust.

Art has so many amazing benefits; it exposes students to different cultures and challenges their views and understanding of society (including race, gender, politics, economics); by engaging with art, it enables the students to voice opinions and open dialects in a safe environment. I have been teaching for 14 years, specialising in Art and Craft at GCSE and A level. I have a PhD in Art Education and a first class honors in Fine Art. I have worked for AQA exam board for several years and Eduqas/WJEC Exam board so I understand the mark scheme very well for all arts courses and this helps me to get excellent results for my learners. I also have an MA in Creativity for the professions. I have studied sculpture, collage, printmaking, painting, mixed media, drawing, life drawing, textiles, art history, photography and critical thinking. I am a very personable, friendly and encouraging person. I love supporting students and helping them to reach their potential.

I have spent many years travelling the world. I am an exponent of Tai Chi, karate and have a particular interest in world religions.
I am a life long lover of cinema, keen amateur photographer and a prolific reader.
I am a winter sea swimmer and a hiker . I am attracted to wild environments and spent much time in ashrams in India and the the Himalayan foothills.

Teaching Experience:
I am an experienced drama teacher, having worked right through the UK educational system from pre-school to university level.
I worked a great deal with children at risk of exclusion and with general behavioural problems.
I taught screenwriting at Swansea University College, Wales.
I have also been a European screenwriter, having written four produced films. I am also an actor having performed in film, TV and theatre.
I worked as a creative writing tutor at Holloway women's prison.
I have a particular interest in the therapeutic importance of myth and the possibilities of narrative therapy in addressing teenage marginalisation and isolation.

Tutoring Approach:
I am less interested in simple academic tutoring and more concerned with the relevance of the subject to the students actual life. I want to enrich the student's life by using the subject to better understand themselves and the world around them. As far as Film Studies are concerned, my interest lies in helping the student to see film as a user-manual for actual living. Therefore I see Italian 50s neo-realism as pertinent as the latest Mission Impossible movie. Ideally the student's exploration of the subject is an exploration of themselves.
With photography I teach that a photograph is a language whether is modern expressionalistic, surreal or journalistic. We have to try to understand what the photographer is in fact seeing. Don McCullin and Man Ray are both expressing not only a critique of the outside world but are providing a window into themselves, their deeper nature.
With drama I want the student to experience somehow what the actor is experiencing of what the director wants the audience to feel and/or learn. I'm particularly interesting in conveying the immediate appeal of Peter Brook and finding out, with the student, where Brook and all the other dramatic explorers, what they are saying to us and where they want to take us.

I am a freelance photographer and graphic designer, with over 13 years professional experience.
A keen interest in portraiture and commercial photography has resulted in an associate level membership to the Royal Photographic Society.

Teaching Experience:
I am currently the subject lead for Graphic Design and Photography at Lincoln college.
I have been teaching for the last 6 years and have educated all of my students in the real world applications of both photography and graphic design.

I'm passionate about photography and the opportunities it affords for creative storytelling. I have a particular affinity for photographing 'the inbetween', unloved spaces sometimes referred to as liminal space.
Based in the northwest of England.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching A Level Photography (at an Ofsted OUTSTANDING college) for the past 12 years and have most recently undertaken a Head of Department role with responsibility for all creative subjects, including Fine Art, Graphics and Textiles, in addition to BTEC Art & Design.
I have a track record of helping my students to achieve excellent grades whilst allowing them to create highly personal projects.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that there is a form of photography to suit everybody, regardless of experience or access to equipment and software.
