I began my Photographic career over twenty years ago, then slowly slipped into Film making as a natural progression.

Martial Arts/Self Defence:

I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with nearly 40 years experience) and have been teaching now for around 30 years.

At my school in Dursley I have students of all ages from five years up to those in their sixties's. I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience. It goes without saying that I have a current DBS, first aid and am fully insured. Prior to becoming a qualified teacher my professional experience includes IT, social work, property maintenance, music, photography and education & employment while my studies at undergraduate included nine subjects. I hold an undergraduate degree in Fine Art, a Master's degree in Creative Practice, and a PGDE in teaching, and I am currently teaching in a high school while also having experience in a college setting.

I absolutely love helping others discover their creativity and develop their confidence, whether that's working towards exams, building a portfolio, or simply enjoying art as a way to relax and express themselves. I pride myself on being patient, supportive, and adaptable to each student's needs. Fully DBS checked, I bring both professionalism and warmth to my lessons, creating a safe and encouraging space where students feel comfortable to learn, grow, and explore their artistic potential.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience teaching both Art and Photography across a range of levels. I am currently a high school teacher, working with students from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE and A-Level, and I have also taught in a college setting. This has given me a broad understanding of exam board requirements, assessment criteria, and the skills needed to support learners at different stages of their education.

Over the years, I have worked with a wide variety of students - from those who are just beginning their artistic journey to those preparing portfolios for further study or creative careers. My teaching experience has taught me how to adapt my approach to suit individual needs, ensuring every student feels supported and motivated.

As a fully qualified teacher with a PGDE, an undergraduate degree, and a Master's degree in Art, I bring both subject expertise and practical classroom knowledge. I am also fully DBS checked, giving families peace of mind.

My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each individual. I believe that every student learns differently, so I take the time to understand their goals, strengths, and areas for development before shaping lessons around them. Whether a student is preparing for exams, building a portfolio, or exploring art for fun, I create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and inspiring.

I aim to build confidence as well as technical skill, giving students the freedom to experiment while also developing strong foundations in technique. I encourage creativity and independent thinking, helping learners to discover their own artistic voice.

Most importantly, I want tutoring sessions to be enjoyable and motivating. By creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, I make sure students feel comfortable asking questions, trying new approaches, and celebrating their progress.
