I am recent graduate with an honours degree in Mathematics with Statistics from Royal Holloway University of London. Currently I am now studying a master's degree at the University of West London in Cyber Security.
For the past 5 years I have continued working part time at my local study centre as a classroom assistant helping children between the ages of 3 and 18 with their numeracy and literacy subjects.
Alongside my academia I have also continued with sports, achieving the top level (Black Belt) in Choi Kwang Do and often watch football games.
In February 2020, I obtained my DBS certificate.
From October 2020, I have began giving hourly sessions for tutees both face-to-face and online, to help improve the knowledge of students and prepare for upcoming exams. I have conducted lessons over Zoom and Skype, and I am open to using other online platforms such as Microsoft Team.

I enjoy tutoring children because it means I can give them my undivided attention which means I can understand that particular child's knowledge and skills on a far deeper level. This is where my Early Years background really helps as I can identify different learning styles and adapt the way I teach to suit each child. This is very much a part of the Early Years Curriculum so I am used to being reflective and using different strategies to help children learn to the best of their ability. I'm a doctor currently working as a GP Registrar, having completed a Graduate Entry Medicine degree at the University of Southampton. Before starting my studies in Medicine, I completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. Ben has been working with my boys for past 4 months now and I couldn`t happier with my choice. My boys are really happy to be tutored by Ben. They feel that their confidence has increased and look forward to working with him. As parents we feel Ben knows child`s ability and aptitude like the back of his hand. When Ben started working with my boys I was really happy with his systematic approach towards the subject depending on the ability of the kids. It is not one size fits all approach but it is customized. Though being twins they are different and Ben has identified this and understood their uniqueness from the first session. Ben has taught my son for Eleven plus since September and I can see my kid doing his daily homework himself without expecting our help. We can see the way of reading has changed and now he looks for new words and try to find the meaning.

Most importantly, Ben develops the wrap over the kid and takes control of reading and writing completely, leaving us in the back seat to see he completes the daily homework. This is great, as we don`t want to study class 4,5 again or teach a different method than thought in school.

Individual approach, great advice, positive attitude.

We have been impressed with Ben`s knowledge, experience and commitment. He is reliable and always turns up on time. Ben has excellent teaching skills and my daughter significantly improved in class from lower to top groups. I`ve seen him working really hard with my daughter while preparing her for 11+ and he knows the tricks to make the pupil understand the exam technique and how to improve academically. Hi, I'm Pedro. I was born in Portugal but have lived in England since I was 9. I'm currently studying BSc in Psychology at Bournemouth University and I really enjoy my degree. I am particularly interested in clinical psychology and as a result since April 2022 I've been volunteering at 'Hammersley Homes', a charity which focuses on helping adults with mental illness. A few hours a week I visit someone who finds himself adjusting back into society, he has autism and bipolar. We speak, go on walks, cycle or listen to music together. I have learnt a lot about how difficult certain people find life. This experience has really helped me to be more empathetic, caring and positive.
I also really enjoy surfing, jogging and cooking.

Teaching Experience:
I took up a role as 'PAL' leader at my university where I was given a classroom of 20 first year psychology students. Although the role involved me 'facilitating' instead of 'teaching'. I spoke to my 'students' every week on what content they were struggling with, since I had done the same content the year prior, I compiled and summarised content which I had been taught and created power point slides to give them direction and a better understanding on the content. I also emphasised taking care of mental health and getting involved with the community.

I was nervous at first, worried about speaking too fast or having awkward silences but after a few sessions I found myself loving it. I received really good feedback from students and supervisor who suggested I should be a teacher because I made the sessions really engaging.

I see tutoring as an amazing opportunity to help motivate students and help them engage in their learning, so that they gain confidence, a better understanding, and better results. I understand every student is different so finding the best way the student engages with the work, is vital so that they enjoy the process of learning and succeeding.
