I work as a Maths Academic Mentor in a local secondary school. I work with students on the borderline of success. My job is to raise their understanding of Maths and to help them raise their attainment along the way to getting a grade '4' in Maths.

Teaching Experience:
I spend my time at school in identifying students who are not working at their potential levels in Maths. I work across all the years, but specifically Years 10/11.
Once identified, I work with students in class, one to one, or with small groups and also afterschool. The majority of students in my group will be around the grade 4 borderline and my job is to take them that one step forwards to a secure grade C and then onwards to higher grades. However, I can help your child Improve at any level including 7 & 8.

Tutoring Approach:
It's important to build relations with students, to promote confidence and encourage independent learning.

This takes time, but once I identify the areas of difficulty for the student. I can target those areas (Fractions, Factorising, Percentages for example) and along with the major topics of Maths which contain the 'must get' marks, I can help your child to make weekly progress by teaching, practising and then testing, to check their learning is progressing. .

From an early age I have been extremely enthusiastic about mathematics and since leaving education, and before I chose to pursue a career in education, I have been fascinated by learning and problem solving. I am currently a teacher in a new school in Hackney, East London. The college is for 14-18 year olds so I specialise in GCSE and A-Level maths teaching. We cater for a range of different backgrounds and abilities which requires the staff to have a wide ranging skill-set. I have previously taught for 5 full years, including 2 years at a 4-18 international school, and have 3 years teaching experience in the UK. My previous school was an independent international school. In all my years as a teacher I have taught GCSE classes and have come to have a sound knowledge of both AQA and Edexcel curriculums. 1 year working in East London, 2 years overseas in the Dominican Republic (students are 95% native Spanish speakers), 3 years in England, 1 year PGCE training incorporating placements at 2 schools in Louth (North East Lincolnshire), trained at Lincoln BGUC. Tutoring Approach:
I believe the key to learning is presenting a new topic in a way that the learner can engage with best. I would aim to break a complex problem down into smaller more manageable parts. Maths is a subject where each new concept is just a collection of previously learnt skills or techniques used in a specific way. I would visit the house of the tutee under the supervision of a parent. Also, if acceptable, I would try to involve a parent in the tuition process so that they can work with the tutee at a later date, if they thought it would help. I am happy to set additional work to be finished between tuition sessions, if the parent and tutee consent to this. I aim to not only help the tutee in acquiring the grade they want but also to improve their confidence in maths and help inspire them to enjoy the subject more.

I have been a teacher for many years having received my PGCE in 1992. Since that time I have worked in a variety of schools in the state and private sectors both in London and Oxfordshire. Teaching physics is a great privilege and pleasure having taught A Level physics for both OCR and Edexcel boards as well as GCSE and iGCSE physics and chemistry. I am currently in the process of creating an A-level OCR physics course for an Oxfordshire school which is both challenging and hugely rewarding as I know it will be used for the A-level students for years to come.

I have a passion for my degree and I think that the joy of physical science problem solving is one that can be easily lost in a school environment. I'm a 19-year-old tutor in Sheffield/London, who has been tutoring GCSE for over a year now during my gap year! I tend to start my tutoring with warm-up questions relating to the previous session as a mini tester for memory. My name is Elliot and I am an English tutor based in Central London. I have been tutoring since 2018 but my background is in Law. I have taught students from three years old all the way up to adults. I have a significant amount of experience in teaching a range of abilities from complete beginners to proficient students. I have successfully prepared students for a range of exams including (but not limited to): IELTS, Cambridge Advanced, Cambridge Young Learners, UKiset (for entrance to UK independent schools) and much more. I have particular experience in teaching essay writing skills.
