From an early age I have been extremely enthusiastic about mathematics and since leaving education, and before I chose to pursue a career in education, I have been fascinated by learning and problem solving. I am currently a teacher in a new school in Hackney, East London. The college is for 14-18 year olds so I specialise in GCSE and A-Level maths teaching. We cater for a range of different backgrounds and abilities which requires the staff to have a wide ranging skill-set. I believe the key to learning is presenting a new topic in a way that the learner can engage with best. I would aim to break a complex problem down into smaller more manageable parts. Maths is a subject where each new concept is just a collection of previously learnt skills or techniques used in a specific way. I would visit the house of the tutee under the supervision of a parent. Also, if acceptable, I would try to involve a parent in the tuition process so that they can work with the tutee at a later date, if they thought it would help. Outline of the lessons?
• The first lesson will focus on identifying areas where pupils need work on.
• In the first few initial lessons, I will cover maths topics that pupils struggle with.
• Future lessons will cover maths topics in the curriculum that pupils are doing in class.
• Towards the end of the term, prior to exams, I will focus on exam practice and past papers.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching for 12 years, and for 7 of those, I was a Pastoral Lead. This entailed me being responsible for 150+ students at various stages in their academic journey. More recently I have become Head of Mathematics at an independent school with a focus on supporting students who have SEN.

I have been privately tutoring 1-1 for 6 years now and I am adaptable to cater my sessions either virtually or 1-1, or 1-2

Tutoring Approach:
I love tutoring and the relationships you can create. Students often harbour a lot of ability in their chosen subject but need to have that inspiration. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing this occur. I try to tailor my sessions as much as possible to the individual with a mixture of questions and real life example.
