My hobby is maths, although I also like astronomy and art.
I have a love for both learning and teaching.
I am currently following a Masters course at Liverpool John Moores University. I am also representative for the Board of Study and currently undertaking an Internship with the Teaching and Learning Academy.

I was awarded a First Class Honours degree from University College London in 1997 and went on to study a PhD in Quantum Mechanics. On successful completion of my PhD in 2001 I started work at Thales Research and Technology (TRT) where I led projects on Adaptive Learning Systems and Information Management. I initiated the first programme to span the three TRT laboratories in France, Netherlands and UK in the area of Cognitive Systems research. I then went on to set up and lead a large collaborative team between TRT and University of Surrey to study remote collaboration technologies. I joined General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited in 2005, primarily to ensure exploitation of DIF DTC technologies into the UK Ministry of Defence Equipment Programme. I received my Chartered Physicist status in 2004 and am now a director.

Teaching Experience:
Several students have improved by more than 4 grades after just six months of tuition with me, and commonly students improve by at least one or two grades. Many of my students who previously had lost their passion for Maths and Physics, go on to take these subjects to a further level. Apart from the usual syllabuses I am experienced at teaching students the Maths section of the SATs and ACTs in order to get scholarships to American Universities.

My tuition method involves making Maths and Physics fun so that children and young adults will remember their lessons and overcome the "I can't do science" syndrome. So that you can assess whether or not I am the right tutor for your child I offer the first lesson for free.

I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2009 and work as a manager tutoring maths part time. I work shifts so I'm generally available at any time throughout the week and weekend. I'm friendly, enthusiastic and make my students feel at ease so they feel comfortable to ask for help with questions which they may not have the confidence to ask during classes at school.

Teaching Experience:
Sixteen years tutor experience with pupils from year 7 up to adult learners. The majority of my students have been studying for their GCSE's.

There are many teachers on here which may be perfect for some children as a tutor. I am not a qualified teacher however all of my previous students have selected me for that sole reason - so their child has a tutor and not a teacher to help them with their maths. They have all felt instantly relaxed with me, more inclined to ask questions and extremely driven to prove themselves.

I'm exam focussed, as most pupils have been taught the syllabus but need help applying that knowledge to answer exam questions.
I initially work through an Exam paper or two with the student to identify any topics that require more in depth tuition. I am a full time Maths teacher at secondary school with a Mathematics BSc Degree. I really enjoy maths (yes this is a cliche), but I love the problem solving aspect of it and the fact there is a right or wrong answer. I always look to simplify problems and am only happy if I fully understand it. I am currently KS4 coordinator at my school and thoroughly enjoy my work and do not see myself doing any other profession.

10 years at a secondary school teaching GCSE Foundation and Higher.
I also teach Maths A-Level (all) and Further Maths A-Level (Core Pure 1 and 2 and Further Mechanics 1). I used to teach the old spec Decision Maths 1 and 2, so am also to help with these too. I like finding out how the world around me works, and am keen to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others. I also enjoy making or tinkering with things - I have customised a button accordion to play bass notes more flexibly, and have added extra buttons to video game controllers. In school I designed and constructed a solar-powered light of adjustable brightness. Patterns appeal to me. When I am not involved in science, I do Scottish Country Dancing, as well as many other genres of folk dancing with intricate symmetrical dance figures. My study of several languages, including Latin and German, allows me to identify parts of scientific terms that I can use to help my students understand them - for instance a recently discovered non-repeating tile is named Einstein not after the physicist but because only one ('ein') type of tile or stone ('stein') is needed to make the pattern. I find Richard Feynman inspiring. He himself got into science through tinkering and discussions with his father about how things worked. He spoke on beauty in nature, and that scientific understanding only enhances its appreciation - as well as seeing the beauty of a flower, a scientist can also wonder at its smaller structure, and how it developed to attract insects to pollinate it. What does this tell us about how bees see the world?

I have three years' experience conducting tutorials in Materials Science at Cambridge University, having myself studied Natural Sciences there, including Physics and Chemistry. In addition to the course material provided by the university and my own worked solutions to the problems, I used physical models in the teaching that I had made myself.

In 2018, I taught the Maths and Physics component of the NCC International Foundation Programme for Engineers (of around GCSE/A-level level) at the Star Exeter language school.

I am a graduate of University of Southampton and Queen Mary University of London. I recieved a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Forensic Medical Science at both of these universities (respectively). Since graduation, I have been volunteering to work with a few GCSE students, focusing on improving their grades and understanding of Maths and Biology. I am most passionate about biology, particularly human biology, physiology, and anatomy and this is where my strengths lie within biology.
