I studied at Dundee College of Education where I gained a Diploma in Primary Education. This was a three year course. I then took another Certificate in Early Years. After leaving College, I taught in both the state and private primary sector. I left teaching to have my children and then to nurse my youngest child who was quite sick for a few years. I also have eighteen years of experience working in clinical biochemistry laboratories within the NHS. Through the years, the goal of educating young children has been the focus of my chosen work experiences, both in Health and Social Care (Level 3) at A Level to outside the classroom. From shadowing Early Years Practitioners to assisting Reception class teachers, I have made my rounds from school to school. As a nanny for two children in Key Stages' 1 and 2, I was fortunate enough to gain experiences of at home teaching of curriculum-based resources provided by the school during the lockdown. It was an invaluable insight into primary school curriculums and gave me the necessary experience needed into teaching, without leaving the house. I aimed to follow these schedules down to the break and lunch times to give the children a sense of normality and a readiness to learn during this unpredictable time.

Tutoring Approach:
Teaching is a rewarding job where children learn through fun and grow to become more inspired and confident learners. Its challenges include time management, differentiating learning styles and lack of funding to name a few. I found time management to be the most important of all, not only for the children but also to aid the teacher themselves, both in and out of the classroom. This leaves time and energy to brainstorm teaching styles specifically for the children being taught, to create a classroom where children with varying learning styles can be educated differently yet equally.

There are a set number of qualities that all teachers must possess to work with children learned during my work experiences in a nursery and primary schools and after school homework programme at the local community centre. This includes patience with the children, kindness and empathy, and of course; an eagerness to learn themselves. These are all qualities I have acquired from constant self-reflection and obtaining criticism from peers and established personnel in the education field. The most important being communication. Knowing how to empathises with others and get your point across in a solution-based way, only strengthens parent- teacher relationships.

I have a PhD in Probability Theory from the University of Warwick and am currently a research Data Scientist in the crop science sector and a supervisor and an affiliate lecturer at the University of Cambridge. My training is in theoretical mathematics but I love the applied side of maths and coding (modelling, data analysis, etc.).

Teaching Experience:
I have 20 years of experience teaching mathematics, from A-level students to postgraduates at UK's top universities (Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick,...). I have taught both in a private capacity as well as in a university setting (tutorials, Oxbridge style supervisions, drop-in sessions, workshops).

Tutoring Approach:
Lessons are tailored to the student's needs but the fundamental underlying principle is usually gaining some intuition for and understanding of the underlying theory before tackling practical problems. Demystifying a formula goes a long way to making one feel comfortable using it!
