As a teenager I was lucky enough to receive tuition myself and it made a huge difference, so I really know how much of an advantage it gives.

Tutoring is my full-time job and has been for many years.

I am extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught.

Since March 2020 I have tutored online using Skype, Zoom, Bramble and MS Teams.
This way of tutoring is surprisingly effective and time-saving, with results as good as in-person tuition,
something I probably would not have discovered if it were not for lockdown, as before then I always tutored in person.

As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex. The key is for them to understand the topic by linking to something which they previously now. This creates a connection in their brain to help them remember and understand the concept long-term. It is vital for students to truly get excited about the subject so by using real life examples, they can remember concepts more easily. I believe in going through problems with the students first and showing a clear example, then allowing them to practise until they understand and can do the problems on their own. Furthermore I sometimes guide them in the right direction without actually telling the answer so the child is able to figure it out for themselves. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practise. I would try to create a spark and make the pupils interested in the subject so that they can pursue their further studies with more enthusiasm. Finally, I always listen to the client and exactly what they require so I can adapt my approach.

I teach students from the ages of 6 to 16 and pride myself on getting to know each student well and taking the time and effort to tailor each session to their learning needs.

I feel its important to motivate students and help increase their confidence. I've worked in both the Aerospace and Automotive industries with companies such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Bentley to name a few and I've given talks at universities nationwide about engineering. I'm Chris, a 23 year old maths PhD student at Brunel University. I was originally granted a School Studentship to fund my studies but then soon after starting my research I was upgraded to an ESPRC grant. I study maths because I enjoy it, and enthusiasm to teach it comes part of this package. For A-level and higher I specialize in pure maths, so algebra, calculus etc so if you happen to be struggling with areas such as these then I'm your guy.
