I take a different approach to my tutoring depending on the individual I am working with. On my first session with my tutee I will find out the areas that they are experiencing the most difficulty in, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, as this will help me to develop an effective and helpful way of teaching. I prepare various worksheets, practice tests and activities which are interactive and will allow for valuable learning. I will ask the tutee what their preferred way of learning is and look at ways in which they successfully learn in other subjects and try to incorporate this in to my way of teaching. I encourage tutees to ask questions wherever necessary and to state if they wish me to try a different approach. I am an Italian national who has been living in Bristol since September 2012 and having had a long time experience as an Italian teacher for students who have participated in the AFS Intercultural Program, it has not been difficult to insert myself here as a private Italian teacher.
I have a deep understanding of the GCSE program since I am tutoring three English secondary school students who are having difficulties with the Italian language. They lack interest and enthusiasm thus each lesson becomes more difficult but a challenge for me. 99% of the students who come to me want to learn how to talk to people, so I am used to this request. I help them achieve this by ensuring that they know their grammar inside and out, and by supporting them with their speaking alongside it. The more we build on the grammar, the more we can build on the speaking, simultaneously. I have personally designed 4 levels of speaking, so the activities vary based on the level the student is in and build up smoothly.
For students who are interested in long-term tutoring, I often recommend a textbook to use along with my slides. I also make use of WhatsApp to send recordings if the student is struggling with pronunciation.

Most people appreciate the importance of knowing some basic grammar before they can practice speaking, and they are open to trusting me to fill in their knowledge gaps first. Once that's done (usually after 5-6 sessions if you start from zero), I introduce them to my "level 1" speaking practice, which is about describing a picture or something that they can visually see, in short, disconnected sentences. "Level 2" would be to try and get that speech to flow a little bit better by using pronouns and particles to avoid repetition. "Level 3" would be to add a bit of made-up background to that picture. For example, if they see that the table is laid but an object is missing, such as cutlery, they can try and think of why that could be (e.g. the man forgot to put the cutlery on the table). "Level 4" will involve describing procedures or things that they can partially visualize, or that are completely abstract, for example, describing every single action taken to make a cake, or talking about a past holiday. Lastly, "level 5" involves debating about current issues or picking a topic, establishing that we have two different opinions, and the student has to try to convince me of theirs.
These "levels" vary from person to person but it provides at least an idea of how the speech develops alongside the grammar, which is present in every session.

Personal Description:
I have been living in London since 2010 where I achieved a Post-Grad diploma in HR at Westminster University in 2016.
I have been teaching Italian language since 2018. During the pandemic I decided to turn my passion about teaching into a full time job.
In 2022 I attended a CLTA certified course at International House on teaching Italian as a second language to adults.

I work on a free-lance basis for two language schools in London and I devote the rest of my working schedule to private students. I also do small groups.

I am qualified and experienced in preparing students for GCSE and CILS certificates.

Teaching Experience:

During the first lesson I will assess your level just with a very informal chat and we'll set up together a functioning plan.

During my classes I make use of various resources and I design my own material which I send to the student to revise. I also provide homework on a regular basis.

Pleased to meet you, my name is Cristina, I am Italian and I am 30 years old.
I am a very sunny and active girl. I really like travelling, getting to know new cultures, doing outdoor activities.

Teaching Experience:
Since I've been at university, I've started giving private lessons to high school kids, in maths, physics, science, grammar and english.
After university I worked as a teacher in a primary school, teaching the basics of various subjects to children aged 7 to 12.
In recent years I have started giving Italian lessons to teenagers and adults of different nationalities.

Tutoring Approach:
During my lessons I speak exclusively in Italian. I have found over the years that this is the most effective way to learn a language. I divide my lessons with a grammar part, exercises and I always leave a good space for free conversation.
My personal experience has taught me that making an effort to understand and not being afraid of making mistakes when speaking speeds up learning considerably.
