I have completed my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. I also have an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, and a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature. I also have a good Fine Art degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design. I have been a private tutor for twenty years, and have taught many children in that time.

My approach to proof-editing / English checking is to look primarily at the language. For some clients - university students in particular - it is not appropriate to offer an editorial service as this goes against the rules of university submissions. However, where I think a mistake has been made or something is not clearly expressed - and it is not a simple matter of correcting the language - then I will flag it up to the student so they can look at it again.

My main aim with my tutees is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. My role is not to replace the teaching they get at school but to compliment it so a tutoring session could concentrate on planning an essay the student has been asked to write or going through specific areas the student needs help with. Having supported four successful Oxbridge applications, I understand that success comes not only from mastering content but also from developing intellectual curiosity and confidence. I work closely with students to identify their interests at every stage of their education, helping them engage deeply with their subjects-an approach that leads to both enjoyment and top results.

At the same time, I place great emphasis on exam technique. By using past papers and mark schemes, I ensure that students are fully prepared for the specific demands of their exams. Understanding how to approach questions, structure answers, and meet examiners' expectations is just as crucial as subject knowledge itself.

A key part of my tutoring is building confidence. I work with students to pinpoint areas where they feel least assured, ensuring that they develop the self-belief needed to perform well under pressure. Personal Description:
I am an English Literature graduate from the University of Edinburgh, graduating with First-Class Honours in July 2025. With A* grades in English Literature, History, and Art & Design at A-level, I have a strong academic background alongside experience in educational publishing and journalism as an editorial assistant and writing articles myself. I am passionate about education and enjoy helping pupils develop confidence in their learning.

Teaching Experience:
I have worked as a private tutor for children aged 5-16, supporting them across English, Mathematics, and Science at different levels of education and exam boards. My tutoring experience builds on several years of leadership and mentoring roles, from supervising youth choirs to coordinating university projects. These opportunities have strengthened my ability to adapt to different learning styles and create a supportive, engaging environment for pupils.
