My name is Valentinos. I am a native Greek speaker and professional teacher of the Greek language. I am passionate about teaching and the use of the new technologies in education.
I studied at the University of Athens Classical Philology (this include Modern and Ancient Greek language) and teaching approaches and theories to the subject. I graduated in 2011 and I came to Liverpool for my masters at the University of Liverpool. Teaching Experience:
I have been an online Greek tutor since 2014. I've been teaching one-to-one Skype lessons and making video lessons for my students so as to explain different aspects of the Greek language. I have also spent three years at Liverpool's Greek School in Liverpool (UK) teaching and giving private Greek lessons there. I focus on general, everyday Greek and I now specialize in adult learners.

Tutoring Approach:
Having students from so different backgrounds and with so different learning purposes and available time and learning pace, my teaching approach cannot be only one. I, always, arrange a pre-lesson meeting (either online or face to face) with interested people in order to obtain information regarding their level, the time they want to invest in their learning, their interests and their favourite way of learning things. Then, I suggest the appropriate learning materials. They are usually a blend of textbooks and my own materials.

I am a Classicist with degrees from Cambridge (BA) and Durham (MA, PhD) universities and have been tutoring for over 10 years. Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tuition will of course largely be dependent upon the needs and ability of the respective tutee. For GCSE or A-level students, however, I believe that it would always be best to begin each lesson with a quick test on a point of grammar and vocabulary, and a literary stylistic feature (e.g. identifying a chiasmus etc.), since these formal aspects essentially underlie the series of unseen exams from GCSE - A-level. After this test, each lesson should focus on a text, ideally alternating each lesson with a text that is prescribed as one of the set texts for the respective exams with an unseen passage. This approach tends to produce the best results since the unseen passages give a true indication of the student's strengths and weaknesses and help the tutor to understand more easily what aspects need to be prioritised.

During the last two years I have been teaching different courses at the University of Leicester, acquiring a strong experience in dealing with students. Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Greece , both in schools and as a private tutor from kindergarten to exam classes and Business English.

Serving as an assessment specialist for Cambridge University Press and Assessment and English Speaking Board

Supporting relocation clients and professionals in mastering language for work, integration, or study online.

Director of Studies and co-owner at Heritage English, a home stay immersion program.

I create a warm, welcoming environment and build a rapport with students to make them feel comfortable . It is important to encourage active participation & listen to the needs of the student to create a bespoke learning plan.

It is essential to prioritise speaking fluency and build on accuracy by integrating grammatical themes through engaging real life and cultural topics relevant to the student.

Sessions are bespoke in order to fit each student's learning style, pace, and interests to make the learning experience meaningful and memorable .

I have a passion in language and cultural studies to help students succeed in exams , for professional purposes , for families relocating to English speaking countries and students learning English as a personal goal .
