Tutoring Approach:
Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. Personally, I believe that conversation is the key to becoming fluent in a language, but at the same time I do not neglect the importance of writing and reading comprehension. I am a highly experienced educationalist with a wholistic approach and a wide range of work experience before training as a teacher.

Prior to becoming a qualified teacher my professional experience includes IT, social work, property maintenance, music, photography and education & employment while my studies at undergraduate included nine subjects. I am an extremely well qualified and experienced teacher of modern languages. I worked in many schools in the UK and for the most part as head of MFL. I also worked in China and Germany teaching English. Since retiring from full time teaching I have been teaching private lessons. I follow the syllabus closely in the case of exam students and make sure that students are confident in all four skills. I elicit information from the students rather than just teach them how something works. By using this method students are more likely to retain the knowledge. I am a native Turkish and near-native German speaker (born in Germany) and have been teaching Turkish and German languages for 10 years. I hold a BA degree in German language and literature, and a PhD degree in Turkish language and literature. I also have a certificate to teach Turkish as a foreign language. However, the most appropriate approach should be decided on before the tuition, depending on the learners and their needs.

Hello! I have a Honours degree in German and French from Oxford University. I also have a post graduate teaching qualification in German and French, so I am familiar with the demands of the curriculum and exam work.

I have also lived and worked in Germany, so I speak native-level German and am great German language and culture enthusiast. I hope that our lessons will make you feel like that too, as well as giving you the knowledge to speak, listen, read and write with confidence.

Teaching Experience:
I have a post graduate teaching qualification in German and French from UCL's Institute of Education and I taught in several secondary schools up to GCSE as part of my teacher training.

I have tutored students at all stages of secondary school up to GCSE, and have tutored adults who wanted to brush up on their German.

Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy teaching one to one and providing a learner with the extra edge that can provide. I like to build on a student's knowledge and language confidence by reviewing what has been learned in class and identifying any gaps in understanding. I like to teach in the target language when it helps student confidence.

For students who want to go that bit further, or who may be considering a language A level, I encourage them to watch and discuss films and programmes in the target language, and read some great literature as part of their language learning experience.

I am teaching French and German I will start off using speech methods, so that the student feels relaxed and able to learn. This is very important. Depending on how we go we can then progress to pens and paper. Learning at this level ought to be enjoyable. I also teach adults at this level. I seek to build confidence in students, so that they can encounter native speakers and be able to do simple tasks like ordering meal in a cafe and an item of clothing in a shop. I have GCSE French and A level German.

Teaching Experience:
I have dyslexia, so I am sensitive to those who have this condition. I go at a slow pace to make sure the knowledge is consolidated before we move on. There is no hurry in learning either of these languages. Better to learn solidly and slowly
than poorly and in a rush. I teach in short sessions as these are most beneficial. There is homework if students want it. I am DBS cleared.

Tutoring Approach:
I am patient and empathetic and these are vital qualities in a teacher. I have travelled frequently to France in recent years, chiefly to Burgundy and also to Paris. I have a also been to Germany --I know Konstanz quite well and have been to Berlin.
Part of learning a language is learning more about the culture of these countries. I hope the students will be able to do this.

I have over 25 years of teaching in Secondary schools and since 2019 I have been teaching adults and GCSE and A level French and German. My group of GCSE German students and my A level German students achieved outstanding results in 2023.I also teach private students at highly regarded English independent schools.
