I am convinced that one-to-one tuition is by far the most efficient way in which a person can progress and gain confidence. Often someone can grasp a topic in 5 minutes of one-to-one that would have taken 2 hours to cover with a larger group. Once you are confident with a topic, we move on rapidly to the next one. A current A level tutee of mine told his father "I learnt more in that 2 hour session than I have all term at school" and his headteacher wrote to congratulate him on his improved grades. (The reason for this is not that his teacher is bad, far from it, but a tutor can give you personal one-to-one attention, concentrating on the bits you need) I always ensure that the learners are confident with each step before progressing further.

Tutoring Approach:
Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. Personally, I believe that conversation is the key to becoming fluent in a language, but at the same time I do not neglect the importance of writing and reading comprehension. My name is Andy. I finished my A-Levels in 2011 and am preparing to study German and Russian at The University of Cambridge starting in October. I excelled at languages in school, receiving an A* in German A2 and an A in French AS. The atmosphere during my lessons tends to be relaxed and flexible allowing for constant re-adjustment to the student's particular needs. We would use different resources to assist us during the lesson.

My planning would be founded on what the student knows already and then carefully building on this knowledge through identifying gaps, setting individual targets and developing steps to success in order to achieve the desired learning goals.

At the heart of my teaching lie open communication, honesty and respect flowing both ways. I believe every student can learn successfully if they are provided with the correct resources, circumstances and support. I always aim to build each student's self-esteem and confidence through setting individual learning targets that match their individual strengths and weaknesses, through celebrating their individual achievements, through praise and encouragement and through adequate support and guidance and by allowing each student to learn at their own pace.

Teaching Experience:
I am a primary teacher with 11 years experience teaching and tutoring across Ireland and England. I graduated with a B.Ed in 2011 and I recently completed a Masters in Education in school leadership. I have taught and tutored all year groups of primary age. In the past, I have worked as the Reading and Phonics leader across Early Years and KS1. I love to support students on their journey learning to read. I get the best from my students with a relaxed, engaging and creative approach. I've been teaching languages 1 on 1 and in classes for around 4.5 years, and running my own language school since January 2020.

I use scientifically proven memory techniques which are both fun and highly effective to help people easily learn and remember vocabulary and grammar in a foreign language. I also give you conversational practice as well as show you how to read and write in the language
