The tutor is the expert in subject knowledge and learning but it is the tutee who has the paramount role in their own education and excelling in their subjects. I firmly believe that the role of a tutor is that of a catalyst and the child's role in their own learning is of greater importance. I aim to guide the tutee to learn in a structured manner that so that the child does not waste their time jumping from topic to topic, randomly browsing a bit here and a bit there, as often happens. My approach is open and relatively informal. English is essentially a skills based subject. My name is Amanda and I am based in Cramlington (Northumberland). I am a former Head of English in a secondary school. I held this position for 21 years, and I left full-time teaching last October to devote more time to tutoring and examination work.

Teaching Experience:
Since 1997 I have taught English, and, for 21 of those years, I led an English department in a secondary school in South Tyneside.
