I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

When I'm not acting or tutoring I can be found in the plumbing, plastering, kitchen or grappling with a cryptic crossword.

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Mairead (pronounced ma-raid, an Irish name meaning Margaret). I am a 26 year old living in Feltham, I work full time as a Disability Advisor and Autism Specialist Mentor supporting higher education students to access reasonable adjustments, provide pastoral support and advice. I also co-run workshops and events for the university I work for. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking, spending time with my family, going to the gym, long walks and nature trails, swimming and arts and crafts. I am also a big fan of the cinema and watching the new films out. I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2018, with a first class honours degree in Criminology and Sociology BSc. Please be aware for KS1 and younger tutoring my rates are £15 per session rather than per hour, to reflect that younger children may benefit from shorter sessions, but that their sessions will still need planning and admin work.

Having Lived in Portugal for a part of my life I have gained an insight to the language and the culture and so currently mainly teach Portuguese, whether its reading or speaking I have got you covered. I hold a MSc in Molecular Life Sciences from Université de Lausanne Switzerland and a BSc in Biology from Imperial College, specializing in Molecular Biology, Genetics and Neuroscience. Before this, I completed my A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Math (3A*) and Physics (A), successfully bridging knowledge gaps betweeen them and their counterparts within the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.

I believe that science can be both fun to learn and personally beneficial to anybody. As such, I will offer tutoring in the four STEM subjects I have experience in. I will also tutor English, as a good command of the language can be as critical to understanding the sciences as the arts.

Teaching Experience:
From 2013 to 2015, I tutored 13-16 year olds in Ontario Secondary School English, Math, and Basic French, oftentimes also taking the subjects that I tutored. I also tutored an 11-year-old student Primary School English and Math from 2016 - 2017.

During my second year at Imperial College, I was a Peer-Assisted Learning program mentor, where I advised ~15 first year students how to do well in Biology coursework and exams, created activities to hone scientific communication skills, and provided constructive feedback on their coursework performance if requested.

Additionally, throughout both my degree programs, I regularly presented talks on cutting-edge Biology research to fellow students and non-experts. As such, I have experience in simplifying difficult concepts to lay audiences.

I have been teaching for 18 years and have taught students from 6 years old through to adults. I have worked extensively in the UK (including Higher Education), and at an international school in Spain. I am a registered examiner with recent experience.

I have a first class honours degree in English and Politics from the University of York - I love English and I want you to love it too! I am passionate about enabling everyone to reach their potential. I specialise in KS3; GCSE/IGCSE English Language and Literature; adults who are returning to education after a break; academic skills for Higher Education; and students who are learning English as a second language (including preparation for the IELTS exam).

I have been tutoring online (in addition to my classroom teaching), since 2016 using a range of online platforms such as Skype, Zoom and Teams. I have a PGCE and I became CELTA qualified, graded Outstanding in all areas, in 2014. I also have an Understanding Dyslexia qualification from London South Bank University. This is a particular area of interest to me and I have taught many dyslexic students who have successfully achieved their qualifications. I hold a BSc in Management with Marketing, and I am currently completing my PGCE in Business Studies, which is allowing me to deepen both my subject knowledge and my teaching practice.
