Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified science teacher based in London. I thrive when helping my students to reach their full academic potential. Whilst science can be a challenging subject for students to grasp, I find it highly rewarding when pupil have the "lightbulb moment" of understanding they are working to master.

I am hugely passionate about maths and science, stemming from my own educational journey culminating in my degree in biology. Even outside of formal learning, I enjoy staying up to date on the latest scientific news and research. I believe it is essential to link the work of my students to the world around them, which makes their studies more relevant to their day to day lives, increasing engagement and improving results.

Outside of school teaching and tutoring, I enjoy rowing, running and reading.

Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified secondary biology teacher and have taught both science and maths in UK secondary schools. I am familiar with all major examination boards, as well as the national curriculum for primary and KS3 students. I have taught a range of pupils including those of very high ability and those with special educational needs. Due to the disruption to education this academic year, I also have experience of 1 to 1 intervention catch up sessions with pupils most impacted by lost learning time this year.

I have tutored primary school, KS3, GCSE and A level maths and science students. I have provided 1 to 1 support for students of varying academic ability, with some pupils striving for top grades whilst others needing support to achieve a pass grade. The students I have taught have varying levels of motivation when it comes to their education. I have found that 1 to 1 tuition has a positive impact on students' attitude to learning, as it provides them with clear structure outside of the distractions that can come with a classroom setting.

After discussing goals with the student and parents, I design a long term lesson plan in order to maximise session time and help track the progress of the learner over our sessions. At all stages, it is crucial for pupils to be provided with opportunities for exam practice and this is a central focus for me when preparing my students to succeed.

This builds motivation and confidence, as the progress of my tutees can easily be tracked against their initial goals. I am a committed, caring and experienced teacher with a proven track record of bringing out the best in students and helping them to attain excellent results across all ability levels. I have been particularly successful at stretching those students aiming to achieve the highest grades. I have stepped back from teaching for a few years to care for my two young children full-time but I miss teaching a lot and helping students to achieve their potential. My favourite books to teach include Frankenstein, The Great Gatsby and The Handmaid's Tale, but I love teaching students to appreciate the power of words across a variety of different styles and genres. Former students would describe me as dedicated, hard-working and personable.

Teaching Experience:
I taught all year groups at a high-performing state school for six years between 2012 and 2018 before I left for maternity reasons. I am an experienced teacher of both GCSE and A Level. I was Second in Department for the last two years before I left and also held the roles of Head of KS3 and KS5 in my department before this. Sixth form teaching is my particular area of specialism as I headed up a school -wide team which sought to innovate effective teaching strategies to appeal to this age group.
