Tutoring Approach:
My approach is very student centric - focused on the needs of the student. If I believe theory is lacking, I will explain the theory in a comprehensive way. If I believe application is missing, I will go over many questions, guiding the student through them. I have a mix of my own questions and past paper questions that I use. As the exams draw nearer I will focus more on past papers.

I also give each student, if they or the parents want it, activities to do which I will mark at the next session. This is like homework except I will try to make it more engaging and fun. None of my activities are generalised - I will base each on what the student requires. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. Having successfully completed a PhD in History in 2011 following a BA in History (2005) and MA in Medieval History (2006), I have recently authored a book on Cultural Trends in Medieval Poetry, set to be published by E.J. Brill in 2016. I have tutored English for many years, specialising in language analysis and literary interpretation. I am a 35 year Principal teacher living in Glasgow. I relocated from Blackpool 11 years ago! I have a degree in drama followed by a post graduate degree in primary education from Lancaster; as well as various sports coaching qualifications.

Maths: Our maths tuition uses the Maths - No Problem! mastery approach, inspired by Singapore's world-leading teaching methods and adapted to the UK curriculum. Children work independently with carefully designed materials, while I step in with guidance and teaching support whenever they need it. Lessons are 1 hour long, with regular feedback for parents and educational rewards to keep motivation high. Every session is designed to make learning enjoyable, build confidence, and develop a deep, lasting understanding of maths.

English: Our English programme aims to spark a lifelong love of reading and writing. It incorporates spelling, punctuation, grammar, reading, and writing, with plenty of work on inference skills and opportunities to enjoy classic fables, sayings, proverbs, and poetry. Lessons are 1 hour long, with regular feedback for parents and educational rewards to keep motivation high. Every session is designed to be engaging, enjoyable, and confidence-building.

Each child follows their own bespoke learning plan as part of a small group and works at a level and pace that is appropriate for them. The student to tutor ratio is a maximum of 5:1.
