My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.

I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I aim to teach all skills equally, but can tailor my lessons based on your strengths and weaknesses. I want to help my students develop a wide range of vocabulary and enable them to understand and use every day language, such as ordering in a restaurant or buying a train ticket, discussing the news or giving their opinion on a political situation.

I always include vocabulary and pronunciation work and believe that correction is a vital part of every lesson. I encourage my students to self-correct, especially in writing, and often find that after a few lessons they are able to make progress in this area.

My classes include games (kahoot, board games, cards, hangman...), social media when relevant, BBC / radio programmes and other interesting activities that will help students increase their English skills in a useful way.

Hi! I'm Alie and I am lover of healthy living, music, dance, nature and personal development.

I grew up in England, with an English father, and a Spanish mother. I have always been fascinated by language and communication and I love travelling and meeting people of different nationalities and cultures. I have also lived in Spain, Oman and Turkey.

I know what it takes to learn a new language and how important it is to stay motivated and consistent! I have A Levels in Spanish and French and I am currently learning Turkish.

I love helping people to pursue their goals which is why I am also a Certified Wellness & Confidence Coach. I am warm, patient and accommodating.

Teaching Experience:
I have 3 years experience (as a speech & language therapist & learning support teacher) supporting non-native English students (in both primary and high school) with their English learning and to better access the British curriculum.

I also have 1 year of private and online teaching experience and I am always supporting my international friends with their English writing and speaking skills!

Tutoring Approach:
My aim is to make your learning feel fun, meaningful and empowering and for you to feel as comfortable as possible in expressing yourself - including making mistakes and asking any questions you have!

My lessons are typically 60 minutes.
