Tutoring Approach:
In teaching English as a foreign language I follow the communicative approach. This means plenty of communication between the student and tutor, rather than spending the whole lesson working through grammar exercises.

My lessons are student centred, which means that each lesson is about the student. My materials are carefully tailored to the individual student and not a 'one text fits all' course book. I try to make my lessons relevant to my student's needs, for example, if you are a chef I base my lessons on cookery; if you work in a shop I base my lessons around retail; and if you are studying for IELTS or residency, I will tutor you for that. Just tell me what you want to do and I will do my very best to help you realise your dream.

I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. My hobbies are reading and writing (for leisure), travelling and sightseeing, aerobics and swimming. When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. Hello my name is Anne-Marie, I am from Ireland but have been living in the UK since 2004. This is now a place I call home. I realised I had a flare for imparting knowledge when I became a basketball trainer at 15, working with Primary and Secondary pupils. I like to use an approach that suits the students I teach. I discuss what needs they have and what their interests are and work from there. I like to be well-prepared yet flexible when necessary. I like to do kineasthetic activities to keep the students engaged in their learning and use a variety of resources to enable my students to gain as much confidence when speaking, reading writing etc.
