I grew up in the UK and then worked in Indonesia for 10 years, teaching Indonesian scholars on pre-departure academic programs. I also taught cross-cultural and study skills courses. After Indonesia, I moved to Australia, where I worked at two universities in Brisbane, the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. More recently I have worked on Exeter and Bath University's pre-sessional program. I'm a friendly, kind and patient person with a good sense of humour and I love teaching.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching for 20 years, mainly in the UK, Australia and Indonesia. I have experience working with English language learners at all levels and particularly at the university level. I think it's important to listen to students and identify their individual needs. I try and see them as they are, without judgment and I also encourage them to see the facts about their language learning, rather than their opinions. Many students say they are 'bad students' and this does not help their learning. So I show them a different path where they can look at the specifics of what they are doing and how they can improve their skills step by step. This makes them feel better about themselves and their studies. It also gives them responsibility for their own learning.
I also bring humour into the classroom as I feel laughter is very important to the learning process. Some students have said that my classes are 'like being in a family' and I think that's a lovely compliment.

My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. I can teach online and offline lessons. When I work offline with my students I send the grammar, videos, podcasts, texts, activities, and so on; all that is needed to practice for the lessons are needed (I will send stuff to practice for more than one hour per lesson). All the skills can be practiced (as requested: speaking with recorded audios, listening with podcasts or videos, reading from articles I have or writing about a specific topic.) All the activities and learning are done whenever the student is free within a week and then I can check it and send feedback to the student.

I work with Google doc, an online document that is just for me and the student, all the activities will be there. if the student has any questions about one activity, it can be written on there or simply the student could write his/her own notes to keep learning Spanish.

I am a native British English speaker and I have been teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults for 22 years. I love meeting people from all over the world and I absolutely love teaching! I am currently teaching part-time at an adult education college in London and I also provide additional learning support to students on a one-to-one basis. Since Covid 19 I have been teaching online. My approach to teaching is to find out what students want and need to learn. At the same time, if students are preparing for exams I focus on the skills that are needed to pass those exams. I like to get to know my students well and find out what their interests are so I can use this knowledge to plan lessons. I also review students' learning with them on a regular basis. My students tell me I am very patient and they enjoy my teaching methods. I use a variety of resources on different topics and I demonstrate various strategies that students can use to learn outside lesson times. Probably the most important thing for me is to be able to help students gain in confidence in using English in their daily lives to achieve their personal goals.
