Tutoring Approach:
With English the aim is to provide a personal conversation led approach to learning supported by written exercises to confirm the rules. Depending on the numbers involved the approach is practical and involves music, role playing, presentations, reading and writing skills. All training is geared to the needs of the individual and there is no set approach.

Language teaching can be more effective in groups and the cost for 2-4 students is 25 per hour. Please ask about larger group sizes.

I believe the greatest benefit of 1:1 tutoring (or tutoring small groups), is that it is so much easier to tailor the learning to the student's needs, aiding understanding and building on that towards mastery of a subject. Progress is often swift because as has been so often stated, 1:1 tuition for an hour is probably the equivalent of several days in the classroom! During my time in schools, I taught across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with responsibility for planning and delivering lessons in English and Mathematics, as well as preparing pupils for SATs and supporting targeted intervention groups. I have also worked closely with pupils with additional learning needs, adapting resources and approaches to ensure progress and engagement.

Alongside classroom teaching, I have extensive experience delivering one-to-one and small group tuition both in person and online. This includes supporting learners for SATs, 11+, and general academic improvement, as well as teaching English as a Foreign Language to international students of varying ages and abilities.

In addition, I run a small tutoring team, overseeing lesson quality and supporting tutors to ensure consistency in delivery and student progress.

I design lessons that are interactive and varied, using a wide range of resources such as games, visuals, real-life contexts, and structured practice activities to keep learning interesting and enjoyable. This helps students stay motivated while still making clear academic progress.

I place strong emphasis on adapting each lesson to the learner's goals, ensuring that every session is purposeful and targeted. Whether the focus is exam preparation, core skill development, or confidence building, I structure lessons to provide clear guidance and steady improvement.

Ultimately, my goal is to support each student in reaching their learning goals while building confidence, independence, and a genuine enjoyment of the subject.
