I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. I am saying this with a view to teaching adults because that is what I hope to do. I am an extremely well qualified and experienced teacher of modern languages. I worked in many schools in the UK and for the most part as head of MFL. I have taught 'jolly phonics'. which is the foundation for recognising and understanding each phoneme and is essential in children beginning to learn to read and write simple sentences and basic punctuation. I have taught maths which involved number recognition and introducing counting, shape, colour, weight, height, sorting, and considering 'more' and 'less' up to 20 I have also taught PE, IT, topic subjects, and guided reading. I have also worked as an EYFS teacher in a pre-school where I was also a key worker to 11 children of pre-school age, so I have up to date knowledge of teaching in a nursey setting. I have high expectations for my pupils and set clear objectives based on individual targets, so momentum and challenge are maintained. I am always mindful of differentiating my planning and teaching to cater for every child's ability, learning needs and styles of learning. I believe that teaching is an art. Everyone has the potential to learn, regardless of mental hindrances. In my view, the role of a teacher is to understand both the limitations and strengths of each pupil and tailor a unique course accordingly.

I started teaching Spanish as a means of earning a living when I first came to the UK in 1973. Ever since then, it has always been a source of income. I am a professional painter, but selling paintings is not a reliable form of income. I have excellent references from former students that I can provide on request.
