Hello. I am a fully qualified teacher with experience across the whole of the primary curriculum, including special needs and teaching for SATS tests . I continually update my teaching, mainly through the National Education Union online training sessions. I have had great results tutoring children extensively on a 1-2-1 basis for SATS and the 11+ entrance exam, plus have experience teaching adult literacy and English as a Foreign Language. We would look at verbal and listening practice as well as written exercises.

I have a particular interest in grammar and feel that it is very difficult to have a good grasp of a language without some grammar competency. This is especially important for A Level examinations. However, grammar does not have to be taught in a boring way and I often use games and fun exercises as well as more formal methods. Primary pupils learn mostly through games, puzzles and songs.

My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

Hi, I have always had a love for languages and would love to instil you with the same enthusiasm. After having lived abroad as part of my degree, I then graduated with a BA Hons Degree Class 2.1 in Modern Languages (German, French and Italian), after which I obtained my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Hello my name is Anne-Marie, I am from Ireland but have been living in the UK since 2004. This is now a place I call home. I realised I had a flare for imparting knowledge when I became a basketball trainer at 15, working with Primary and Secondary pupils. I like to use an approach that suits the students I teach. I discuss what needs they have and what their interests are and work from there. I like to be well-prepared yet flexible when necessary. I am an extremely well qualified and experienced teacher of modern languages. I worked in many schools in the UK and for the most part as head of MFL. I also worked in China and Germany teaching English. Since retiring from full time teaching I have been teaching private lessons. I have high expectations for my pupils and set clear objectives based on individual targets, so momentum and challenge are maintained. I am always mindful of differentiating my planning and teaching to cater for every child's ability, learning needs and styles of learning. I'm a qualified TESOL tutor who has recently relocated to the UK after spending 30 years in France. In my free time I enjoy reading, working out, walking, travelling and learning about different cultures. I was born and grew up in Sweden.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching English to non-native speakers of all ages and from various backgrounds for nearly 20 years now both at a language school and independently. My students have included university and hospital researches and other professionals, as well as young learners and teenagers.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe my role is as a facilitator and motivator and I'm eager to transmit my passion for English to students and to keep them motivated. All my classes are bespoke and completely adapted to learners' needs. I have successfully prepared students for exams such as FCE, CAE, TOEIC, IELTS etc, job interviews, presentations and coached them in other skills required in the workplace.

My name is Laura, I live in Reading, England. I really enjoy helping people improve their English- it is so important to communicate well and I would like to help you do this with English lessons.

Outside of work I enjoy the outdoors- walking my dog, sailing or swimming in the sea :)

Teaching Experience:
I have taught English as a foreign language for over 20 years- in language schools, abroad and on-line. I have worked with professionals who want to develop their career, refugees and asylum seekers who are settling in the UK and anyone who is keen to improve their English.

I used to be a physiotherapist in the NHS, so if you work in healthcare I can especially help with medical English.

Tutoring Approach:
We can do lessons on-line or in person if you live in the Reading area. Setting goals will help you get the most out of the lessons- you may want to pass an exam, apply for a job or improve your everyday language. We can have fun lessons to help you achieve these goals. I will set homework to help you learn inbetween lessons and achieve your goals more effectively. During lessons we can use videos, online articles, games and much more to keep the lesson interesting and fun.
