This coaching-based approach I take has proven highly successful. I approach each student and the sessions with an open mind to learn what I need to be of support.

Combining motivational coaching techniques, I offer a uniquely engaging, personally attuned service. The first lesson typically consists of a complimentary educational assessment (usually 30 minutes) to help identify key areas for improvement . All results can be shared with the parent/guardian. Based on this initial assessment, a 100% individual and tailored programme of learning is created. While encouraging the student to adopt high yet realistically achievable targets for their own education, I am also sensitive to the level of each student and what he or she is ready to adopt.

Having completed my first degree in French and German at Oxford University in June 2013, I returned to Belfast to complete first a MA in Medieval History, and then a further MA in Translation Studies.

I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. I was delivering lessons spanning the complete age range and all levels of ability. These included one-to-one lessons for adults studying for their B1, B2 and ISE III exams. Once a month, I was the interlocutor in the speaking exams, and I marked the written exams. I was also coaching adults with their speaking skills.

I was delivering Skype lessons and interactive storytelling to young learners. In addition, I was coaching students towards their exams.

I taught all aspects of grammar, sentence construction and vocabulary to a business manager and students. I gave pronunciation instruction to students via Skype.

Tutoring Approach:
I encourage the student to speak as much as possible by using a variety of techniques to provide material to talk about, using everyday vocabulary. More specialist vocabulary is explained for work purposes. I am extremely patient and have experience teaching learners from all over the world and therefore understand particular pronunciation difficulties. I provide a lot of help with common problems encountered, using, for example: tenses, phrasal verbs, and word order in sentences.
I am a native English speaker with a clear voice and am qualified through Trinity College London in TESOL. I also have an NVQ III in Business and Administration.

Hello!! My name is James and I am currently doing an undergraduate degree in Applied Linguistics with Teaching English as a Secondary or Other Language.
Once I have completed this degree I will be starting a masters in TESOL with a focus on second language acquisition.

As well as this degree, I have also completed a CELTA qualification as well as an accredited 120 hour TEFL qualification.

I have travelled to many countries across Europe which has enabled me to have a deep appreciation of different cultures, as well as understanding how difficult it can be to learn a language.

I have been teaching private one-to-one lessons for over a year with a variety of students with different needs. These include IELTS preparation, Cambridge Certificate preparation as well as general conversation practice among many other various needs

I began tutoring in 2015 to help out a friends child with their French. During those lessons I started to develop a joy in teaching and thrived on seeing the progress of my student. Since then I have created simple methods, tailored to each child or adult, whether it be for the fun of learning or to obtain good grades. After also enjoying the experience of tutoring primary students Maths and English, I started tutoring GCSE French on the side. Whilst doing this, I was a pre school teacher at a nursery!
