During the first session I present a short questionnaire that I ask the student to fill in (honestly!) in order for me to assess their individual learning styles (right brain vs. left brain, use of visual stimuli etc), so that I can respond best to their needs. I graduated the University of Cambridge this year with a BA in Economics. My final year modules included microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, public economics and my dissertation, which statistically assessed the effectiveness of covid lockdown measures in the US and achieved a first class mark (placing me in the top third of my cohort). During my studies I tutored part time, teaching maths and economics.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching approach is problem and discussion based. This involves collaboratively working through problems and questioning students throughout their lessons to confirm and deepen their understanding. In essence, students get the experience of a Cambridge style supervision.

For example, several questions I often ask students to improve their writing are:
1) Would you say it out loud?
2) Would your teacher say it out loud?
3) Would someone a couple of years younger than you/without specialised subject knowledge be able to understand your argument?

For maths, my teaching heavily emphasises learning concepts from first principles to avoid unnecessary memorisation and confusion. We then cover a broad range of past exam questions to test all aspects understanding.

Lessons are conducted on zoom, where we can share our screens to work through problems together as a team. We also use bitpaper, a premium online interactive whiteboard.

I began tutoring during my A-Levels, assisting GCSE students with their understanding of Chemistry. My teaching approach centres on tailoring material to each individual student, as there is no 'one-size-fits-all' approach to learning. From there, I can prioritise tackling problems that they might be having with certain skills and aim to further improve their strengths, whilst maintaining an appropriate level of challenge across skills.

Before the lessons, I like to establish with each student what goals they want to reach. It's a useful icebreaker, but also allows me to determine what they want to get out of the teaching, whether this is boosting their confidence or excelling at exams. This way we can identify what the focus point is, and plan the lessons around that.

Tutoring Approach:
Making sure the lessons are interactive is another of my top priorities, as I believe that mixing the content up to keep the student engaged helps them to learn a lot faster. Once a student is confident with the subject, I get them started on past papers, as applying the knowledge in this way is better reflective of actual exam conditions.

I am a Business English Tutor, with a Bachelor's degree in Economics for Business and Marketing. I have spent over 20 years in Corporate, especially in the banking area, where I have gained a lot of experience.
I have 15 years of teaching different Business subjects, I am also a CELTA Cambridge teacher.

I have taught over 1500 lessons, helping my students gain skills and confidence. I know the corporate environment very well, and I would be happy to share my knowledge with you. I am a passionate Second Year Economics student at King's College London, and have scored a First Class in all my mathematics-related modules (including Advanced Maths for Economists and Statistics for Economists). Prior to university education, I achieved A* in every Maths and Further Maths Papers (for Further Maths: Pure Core 1, Pure Core 2, Further Statistics, Further Mechanics, and Further Additional Pure). I have a huge love for maths and what it can teach you - it's not just all numbers! It has many applications to real life and is so rewarding when you get it right. I believe any maths can really help you to develop your resilience, analytical thinking, and creativity: there are often so many ways to approach problems! As an extra-curricular alongside my course, I take Spanish, studying at roughly C1/C2 standard. Aside from academics, I particularly enjoy running, biking, and swimming in my free time, as well as playing the piano.

Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring throughout my undergraduate degree course at university, spanning GCSE Foundation and Higher Tier, GCSE Further Maths, and A-Levels. This has successfully culminated in improving grades of my students, for example from C to A at A Level. I have mentored students at GCSE Maths level during my time in Sixth-Form at secondary school, as a way to give back to the community. Furthermore, I have been volunteering for over 6 months as a GCSE Foundation Maths Curriculum Administrator at an organisation promoting increased opportunity for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I love personalising my lessons to the student's wants and needs, with a special emphasis on encouraging confidence in students. Never be scared to ask a question and have a go, and trust your instincts too! I teach the key theories behind questions which allows you to add new ways to approach unseen questions using your whole arsenal of weapons you subsequently have at your disposal. I use a combination of teaching by examples, as well as setting independent practice questions which we can go through if there are any difficulties.
