During the first session I present a short questionnaire that I ask the student to fill in (honestly!) in order for me to assess their individual learning styles (right brain vs. left brain, use of visual stimuli etc), so that I can respond best to their needs. This comes from removing all uncertainty from the equation - the student knows exactly what they need to do, it's now just a case of executing it.
