I have been teaching in Scotland for approximately 17 years now. I have been involved in a number of SQA and National Projects including tasks such as writing, marking and developing the course.

In my current role, I have full responsibility of delivering the new qualifications from S1 BGE through to Advanced Higher Computing Science. I have made the changes to our course and continue to develop these and the changes have been seamless in ensuring a smooth transition into the National Qualifications. I have enhanced my knowledge at National 4 and 5 by not only delivering these courses from the outset but also attending understanding standards events, marking the assignments and also the exam from the 2017/2018 academic year to present. I am also now an item writer for the National 5 course. I have worked in the IT industry for over 25 years and have a First Class Degree in BSc Computer Science, I am also a member of the British Institute for IT and a registered STEM Ambassador. I have a passion for all aspects of digital technology and I am an experienced programmer. I have full DBS clearance and certification.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught ages 11 to 18 in ICT and Computer Science at GCSE and A Level in schools in Liverpool, Wirral, and wider Cheshire and North West region. I have also taught BTEC IT and iMedia courses and regularly assist with coding events for children of primary school age. I'm familiar with all curriculum content and complete knowledge of all topics in detail. I have a PGCE in Secondary School Computer Science and I am a Qualified Teacher in the UK. I have also taught maths at GCSE level.

Tutoring Approach:
My career background is in digital media and graphic design which I believe helps me communicate the subject in an effective and vivid way using visual aids extensively. I try to make the subject as relevant to real-life terms and situations as possible to provide context and also link the topics to familiar concepts for the same reason. For abstract and technical subjects like programming and maths I believe a 'grounded' approach is important to make the learning more accessible, together with encouraging practice and practical application of skills. My subject knowledge, enthusiasm and friendly approach helps my learners to gain the confidence and ability to succeed in their studies.

I have been 100% successful in helping my tutees achieve exam success in Maths including a student with special educational needs who gained a grade 5 at GCSE.

During my last position one of my key roles was to ensure that all members of teaching staff were fully trained in any IT applications we used at the school. I delivered training to 200+ members of staff either in a one to one manner or class based IT training. Whether you need to brush up on your IT skills which you already have or are completely new to IT, I can provide basic IT training or advanced training courses and can tailor training courses based on people's skills.

I am an experienced software engineer in financial industry focusing on building low latency trading and risk applications. I have experience in programming in Java and Python and can well-versed in multiple programming languages like c++ and R. I also have experience in using RDBMS/SQL and nosql.
