I have taught in schools in Leeds since 2012, my first teaching role included the introduction and leadership of GCSE Computing, the first cohort to complete this GCSE were one of the highest performing cohorts in Leeds and within the top 8% of schools across the country (Source: BCS, Roehampton Computing Report, 2018). My second school involved me expanding my leadership to lead computing, computer science, business and health and social care. Likewise, significant improvements were made in computer science, results also rose from 36% grade 9-4 to 98% grade 9-4 within one year, student progress measures showed students performed +1.9 grades higher compared to similar students across the country (GCSE results, 2019).

Between 2017 & 2019, I led a school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) programme for secondary computing teachers in Leeds, this involved training the next generation of computing teachers and supporting them throughout their teacher training year. This process also included running a subject knowledge enhancement programme and running several 'Computing Subject Days' to develop pedagogical understanding in the subject.

In April 2019, I joined the National Centre for Computing Education, a new initiative, funded by the Department For Education, introduced in 2019 to support teachers with subject knowledge and the confidence to teach computing. I currently lead the secondary computing education strategy, leading on secondary teacher training, Isaac Computer Science, quality assurance, teacher residentials and more.

I am currently Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Isaac Computer Science.

With significant experience in teaching the full national curriculum to every year group in key stages 1 and 2, I can provide an enhanced learning experience for every child in all aspects of Maths and English and their application in other curriculum subjects by drawing on the very best of modern and traditional teaching methods. I also have experience working with children with a range of additional needs. These include Aspergers, Autism, Downs Syndrome, ADHD, Global Delay, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Discalculia.

I use quality resources to make learning accessible and meaningful, creating and adapting everything I use to ensure the learning is tailored to the learner. Interesting, engaging and constantly adapting to the needs of your child as and when they emerge I ensure learning is enjoyable but also challenging. I tutor both privately and in schools, where much of my work has been through the National Tutoring Program - enabling children to catch up from learning missed during the pandemic.

Hello, I'm a Lecturer at Cardiff University with expertise in cybersecurity, Python programming, and data science. Over the past 8+ years, I've worked with students at GCSE, A-Level, and University levels, helping them improve their understanding, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals.

2016-2018: Assisted postgraduate and undergraduate labs and tutorials at Cardiff University, School of computer Science & Informatics. 2016-2022: Private tutor. I have successfully helped a range of students throughout the years. I have taught and mentored students from GCSE, AS and A-level all the way to university level. I have a good proven track record of helping students with, including the Python programming language.

Tutoring Approach:
I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the individual. I understand that every student has a unique way of learning. An initial meeting establishes the student's needs and the direction tuition should take. Then we begin working on a programme of study which focuses on filling gaps in knowledge and addressing any areas of weakness.

A key element in my teaching is that I do not only help the student understand the necessary material, but I teach them how to think. This is an essential skill in the Computer Science field. During the sessions I also try to inspire the students and make them passionate about computing.

I have worked in the IT industry for over 25 years and have a First Class Degree in BSc Computer Science, I am also a member of the British Institute for IT and a registered STEM Ambassador. I have a passion for all aspects of digital technology and I am an experienced programmer. I have full DBS clearance and certification.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught ages 11 to 18 in ICT and Computer Science at GCSE and A Level in schools in Liverpool, Wirral, and wider Cheshire and North West region. I have also taught BTEC IT and iMedia courses and regularly assist with coding events for children of primary school age. I'm familiar with all curriculum content and complete knowledge of all topics in detail. I have a PGCE in Secondary School Computer Science and I am a Qualified Teacher in the UK. I have also taught maths at GCSE level.

Tutoring Approach:
My career background is in digital media and graphic design which I believe helps me communicate the subject in an effective and vivid way using visual aids extensively. I try to make the subject as relevant to real-life terms and situations as possible to provide context and also link the topics to familiar concepts for the same reason. For abstract and technical subjects like programming and maths I believe a 'grounded' approach is important to make the learning more accessible, together with encouraging practice and practical application of skills. My subject knowledge, enthusiasm and friendly approach helps my learners to gain the confidence and ability to succeed in their studies.

I have been 100% successful in helping my tutees achieve exam success in Maths including a student with special educational needs who gained a grade 5 at GCSE.
