- How long is your waiting list?

My after school, evening and weekend lessons have a 2-3 year waiting list. This can fluctuate according to the number of Year 11 students staying on for sixth form, the number of siblings starting lessons and requests for extra lessons from my current students. I always recommend students join my waiting list in Year 7 to ensure a slot for GCSE. However I understand this isn't always possible and I'll always try where I can to accommodate you.

- What does a typical lesson involve?

This completely depends on the individual student! I'm very lead by the aspirations, ability and talents of all the wonderful students I teach.

In general we go through the specification of their particular qualifications in detail and then attempt the relevant exam question booklets I put together. Kinaesthetic learners love my box of molecules! Every lesson has a positive and productive atmosphere to boost my student's confidence and help them achieve their individual potentials.

Highly recommend!!! Ellie has genuinely been the best chemistry teacher I have had, she is also an examiner which is a great help as her knowledge is always up to date not only with content but also exam questions and mark schemes. She explains the chemistry in as much detail as you need as opposed to the majority of teachers who focus more on memorisation and wrote learning. So you have a good understanding (which is the best teaching style as exam questions can require a lot of application.) I believe the greatest benefit of 1:1 tutoring (or tutoring small groups), is that it is so much easier to tailor the learning to the student's needs, aiding understanding and building on that towards mastery of a subject. Progress is often swift because as has been so often stated, 1:1 tuition for an hour is probably the equivalent of several days in the classroom! My initial approach is to assess the student's needs in the first couple of sessions, using the information gleaned to build a program of study that is particular to that student. Engineering is one of the hardest subjects you can study, and it doesn't help when module content is disorganised, learning materials are messy and hard to follow, and when lecturers are too busy to respond to your questions. My overall aim is to teach you to become an independent learner, to teach you how to learn, so that you can learn regardless of the support from your university, and so you can continue learning when you leave university into whatever career path you take.

I make sure to explain things slowly yet effectively and take time to understand the pupils way of learning and adapt my teaching in that way. I ensure that I am patient and friendly when tutoring and try to create a relaxed and calm but attentive atmosphere. Born in Scotland grew up in New Zealand where I went to Otago University, the oldest in NZ and gained a 1st Class BSc (hons) and a PhD in Physiology.

I then had a research career here in the UK mainly working on muscle development. I can be found in Nature doing that.

Hi! I'm a friendly and enthusiastic tutor who would love to help you understand subjects better. I currently study Biomedical Science at the University of Oxford.
I received A*AA in my A-levels, with a 90 and 92 in maths paper 1 and 2. I also took 12 GCSEs, achieving eight 9s in total, including in Maths, triple sciences and English literature.

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored the 11+ for four years, and am familiar with all common exam boards (GL, CEM, CSSE). Last year, I tutored 3 students for the 11+ with weekly sessions starting from early June, and some more sessions towards the end. Two received offers from Ilford and Woodford county, their first choice grammar school, while the other passed the exam for other grammar schools in the borough.

For GCSE's, I have professional experience tutoring GCSEs and KS3 english, maths and science at an Ofsted-registered tuition centre.
