I usually start with the current topics that student is studying in the school and explain to the student that topic and related background knowledge. As I teach one to one, my pace is faster than school and we usually finish the topic in one or sometimes two classes. And then we do previous topics and I explain doubts on those topics. Some students find Chemistry really hard, and I can help them over that hurdle.
My favourite topic is Organic Chemistry and I have spent a lot of time helping students who are struggling with it.

Tutoring Approach:
I use a lot of Socratic questioning to scaffold how the student should think when they approach a question they don't understand, this helps them be more confident to think through questions in the future.
