Hello! My name is Gemma and I am a 32 year old doctor, chartered accountant, strategy consultant and successful start up founder. I graduated in medicine from Nottingham University in 2016, switched to finance, became a qualified chartered accountant, and now work for one of the 'Big4' in health advisory and strategic consulting. However, my heart will always lie with the sciences, and somehow in amongst all of my wide ranging career, my favourite job has always been teaching.

Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. Hey I'm Abdul. I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Leeds. I passed my 11+ and attended Wilson's School and I absolutely loved my time there. When studying for my GCSE's, I struggled quite a lot with Chemistry and so I decided to get a tutor. After a few months of receiving tuition, there was a noticeable improvement in my grades and I achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry GCSE and later on studied it for A-level and achieved a grade A. I was very thankful to my tutors and teachers as I could not have done well in my studies without them.

During my time at sixth form, I volunteered to tutor GCSE students in my school. I later on taught some students outside of school for 1 year and it allowed me to build a long term relationship with my students and be able to actually see improvements in their grades and confidence in that subject. Personal Description:
A little about me: I'm Shaun, an 24 year-old originally from Dulwich. I'm just finishing my first year of a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Bath, and I have a first-class MSci in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, where I also helped lead tutorials and peer-assisted study groups. After my undergraduate degree, I worked as a Specialist Junior Chemistry Demonstrator at the University of Oxford, where I gained my AFHEA accreditation (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). These roles gave me solid, formal teaching experience and also helped me learn how to support neurodivergent students in a calm, friendly, anxiety-reducing way that seems to work well.

Teaching Experience:
I have extensive experience teaching A-Level Chemistry, including supporting students who haven't taken A-Level Physics or Maths and therefore find the calculation-heavy topics tough. I've been tutoring privately for around 8 years, and a lot of that has focused on building confidence with moles, equilibria, rates, thermodynamics, redox, and the general maths side of the course.

For example, one of my recent tutees - who's just about to start a paramedicine degree - initially left every maths question blank. We worked on how to break questions down: how to read them properly, pick out key information, and what to do when you feel stuck. By the end, he was attempting these questions with confidence, which made a huge difference to his grade.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually teach via Zoom or Teams using an interactive online whiteboard so we can work through problems step-by-step. If you want, I can also prepare short presentations or typed notes for specific topics. Most students find online lessons just as effective as in-person, especially for structured calculation practice. And since I'll be entering a paper-writing phase soon, in-person sessions may become possible again later next year
