My focus as a tutor is to improve my students' learning experience. This results in more confident students able to achieve higher grades.

I am a A Level Chemistry examiner and specialist Chemistry tutor with a wealth of experience as a classroom teacher. I have expertise on AQA, Edexcel and OCR A. I hold Qualified Teacher Status as well as a PhD in metalloproteins thermodynamics.

My name is Fran and I am extremely grateful for being able to teach.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a professional private tutor since 2009. I consistently help my students to improve their results and final grades.

My experience as an examiner since 2014 enables me to guide students on how to maximise their performance in exams. I work with my students through mark schemes, helping them to interpret them, and revise independently.

I have been a GCSE and A Level Chemistry classroom teacher from 2011 to 2021. This has allowed me to build an extensive pool of resources that range from introduction of topics to activities that challenge students to the A*. I am very aware of typical problem areas where students struggle as well as common misconceptions, and I tackle them in ways that students feel comfortable with.

Tutoring Approach:
Great part of my success helping students is due to using a spiral teaching approach which consists of three layers:

First layer: Fulfil your potential.
I train and equip my students with tools and strategies designed to help them work on a given topic in an independent manner. My tutoring model does not make the student be dependent on me, rather the opposite.

Second layer: Support and stretch.
Together with the student, I identify strengths and areas for improvements. This makes lessons focussed and productive. I then guide my students to move on to the next level in their learning journey, stretching them whilst keeping learning achievable.

Third layer: Review, review, review
By unleashing my students' potential and providing them with tailored support we manage to cover the syllabus earlier than they would normally do in their school or sixth form college.
This allows us to revisit topics, which has a huge impact on gaining long term knowledge retention as well as depth of understanding. Students who have followed this plan feel ready and confident in the days previous to the exam.

As to tuition arrangements:

Firstly, we will discuss your goals and any areas where you particularly want to improve. We will plan the first lesson and I will inform you about some simple resources to be ready to start. We normally set up some homework to be submitted before the first lesson but this depends on the student's needs.

Subsequently I will enrol you into an online classroom designed for uploading resources, submitting homework and receiving specific feedback on it. The next step is our first lesson, where you will have a very active role and get practice, tips and continuous feedback. Following I will set you targeted homework to cement your knowledge. If after the first lesson you are not fully satisfied, you will get all the lesson fee back.

I follow the spiral learning approach and aim to review topics with my students several times to enhance their depth and long term retention of knowledge.

In addition to be keen on developing students' academic skills, I equally work on improving their attitudes towards learning, e.g. I train them to accept mistakes with a positive mindset, and use them as highly valuable learning experience in their journey. These attitudes towards learning play a vital role in helping students enjoy the subject and perform at their best.

I have been a teacher for many years having received my PGCE in 1992. Since that time I have worked in a variety of schools in the state and private sectors both in London and Oxfordshire. Teaching physics is a great privilege and pleasure having taught A Level physics for both OCR and Edexcel boards as well as GCSE and iGCSE physics and chemistry. Hello :) I'm a PhD graduate in Immunology and Immunotherapy. I'm currently a Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Birmingham, UK. My primary research interest is the development of immunodiagnostics.

Besides face to face tutoring,I also do postal tuition.As an honours graduate of the Open University I know this can be effective.I find the initial requirements by telephone then send a worksheet by post.When the student returns this I mark with full comment and send back with a full work out of each question.Some questions are designed by me and some are from previous papers.In my view this method is better than online as there is more time for reflection.I charge just £22 for postal tuition and will tutor students from anywhere in Great Britain or abroad

I am a graduate from the University of Nottingham in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and am about to to begin my masters at Nottingham in Clinical and Molecular Microbiology. Science has always been a passion of mine and I greatly enjoy helping people to understand and appreciate the fascinating complexities of the world around us.

Teaching Experience:
My experience up to this point have been that of tutoring friends and family in biology and chemistry in areas that they may have been struggling in. However I am also a level 1 qualified swimming teacher and tennis coach, having taught children from the ages of 3-14. Hello! I'm a qualified teacher currently teaching in a north Wales secondary school. I have 28 years teaching and tutoring experience and an honours degree in Biomedical science. I previously spent 3 years working as a qualified scientific officer at a large teaching hospital. My two sons are both at secondary school so I understand the pressures of exams as a parent too.

Since COVID, my tutees and myself have made the transition to online tutoring which, although I was sceptical at first, I now feel this method works even better than in person. It gives me better access to resources to use in lessons and to pass to students without the need for printing, it allows more flexibility with lessons, allows me to reach students who live further away, avoids lesson cancellations due to poor weather and is less intrusive for the student's family.

Dates - life is often busy so I'm happy to move lessons around if I'm free.
Lessons - things happen and sometimes students need to cancel a lesson at the last moment. Online tutoring gives us the flexibility to do this without any problems or any fee.

I began tutoring during my A-Levels, assisting GCSE students with their understanding of Chemistry. I'm a recent graduate of the university of Liverpool having studies chemistry BSc. I picked the course since i enjoyed chemistry at both GCSE and A level, creating a spark within me and led me to picking the challenging yet rewarding course. I'm currently employed as a Data Scientist working in London, and I've decided to pass on the passion in studying science to the younger generation by deciding to tutor. I believe Chemistry and Science in general hold the secrets and answers to many of the problems we currently face on a societal level, anything from global warming to world hunger. Science has the ability to produce unique and creative solutions to paramount, complex problems, thus i chose to study chemistry at university level.
